How good a passer is Messi?
Re: How good is Messi's passing and vision?
I forgot to add that pass in Jiopsi's sig is so *bleep* brilliant, as Ray Hudgson would say, he has "Chameleon eyes". lol

Re: How good is Messi's passing and vision?
I don't think his decision making is becoming poorer, I think it's improving every year. But he's not perfect, nobody is.Mr.Hendrix wrote:[Alongside Xavi, I think Messi is definitely one of the best final passers in the world. I absolutely admire his "on the ground" diagonal passes, really a joy to behold. The best thing about him is that he always attract 2/3 defenders towards him all the time, therefore allowing so much space for villa ( too bad he is offside all the time). Arda Turan isn't bad either, btw
But the one thing i have noticed is that his decision making has become poorer, as pointed out by Jerry Armstrong, Messi has lost the possession the most in la liga so far (in match day Skysports commentary). You guys watch Messi way more than I do, what are your thoughts?
For the possession lost most part, it has to be put into a context. He has the ball always at the most tightest spaces and tries always the most daring/ most productive stuff. It's like saying Ronaldo is better dribbler because he gets disposed only 1.6 time per a game, when Messi gets disposed 3.2 times. When you put that into context that Messi actually makes 4.2 succesfull dribbles per game and Ronaldo 1.2, you will see that Messi's success rate is 57% and Ronaldo's 43%, so not only he is better dribbler he make much more of those.

jiopsi wrote:Well yes he did, but it's the fourth game a row Villa hasn't scored one of these. It's not bashing or anything, just an observation.harhar11 wrote:What a pass!
But what do you mean with the bolded part? Villa did great apart from being offside.
I know that he misses sitters, he seems to be scoring the harder goals while missing the easier ones, but that time he was perfect(apart from being offside that is). So I didn't understand why you use that as to prove that he doesn't want to score from those passes.

This is true, but don't forget that messi also tries to make riskier passes than most players and still has maintain a high completion rate..

Re: How good is Messi's passing and vision?
The annoying thing about his passing is that he will often not give the easy pass.Sometimes Villa will be wide open on the left and he could feed him with a simple lay off.But he will ignore Villa and go for goal himself.
On the otherhand he finds Villa with annoying consistency with the ridiculously tough passes.
So he doesnt give the easy one but pulls out the ridiculously tough passes at will.
Once he fixes this chink he will be even more lethal.

Re: How good is Messi's passing and vision?
i wouldnt personally wouldnt describe Messi as an elite passer but more of a WC passer
why because the only real range of passing I have seen from Messi is from making a diagonal run and slotting inbetween CB and FB because he knows Villa/Pedro will make the run from out to in and its hard for defenders to turn and run and get there first before the WFs
also he is very good at spotting the run from deep because he plays deeper and because he knows what his team mates will do and they usually make the deep run, so he has perfected the dink/chip pass
however hes a pure attacker and ive only seen his final 3rd passing, maybe i would think differently if he was nearly always deep like Cesc, Xavi etc

Re: How good is Messi's passing and vision?
You should have watched videos before commenting i think, he makes all sort of passes in attack. Making those passes is not easy as you think, vision and accuracy of the pass through 3-4 players is amazing to watch. He makes assists even from his own half its deep enough
Jiopsi needs to post his one touch pass to fabregas (also higuain) and his wonderful assist to xavi. there are so many wonderfull passes from him i cant count all

I personally feel that while his vision is fantastic he could work on the weight of his passes. Quite a few times he gets the exact idea right but the pass goes by a little too strong.

That's now Villa's fourth 1on1 in few games from Messi's pass without scoring. Should we be worried?

In Messi's assists against real madrid I notice the trend of Ramos being caught off position almost every single time.

Re: How good is Messi's passing and vision?
jiopsi, I'm just glad Villa's making the runs and getting the passes. Villa is low on confidence, but as Alfred said, it will come in time. Goals are like that. The real problem is when a striker isn't getting chances.

Re: How good is Messi's passing and vision?
By what i have seen from messi, he is a player that was taken very good care of by barcelona.
As "naturally" talented as lionel messi is, his years of training under the catalan system and philosophy molded him into the type of player barcelona needed.
The result is a player who's vision and passing is not only world class, but aided by his talent.
The goals he's scored and assisted against real madrid, shows the quality he has at the most important moments.
Brilliant.

Of course. I watched on a very poor stream but what a pass it was. That said he gave another excellent pass in the first half which unfortunately did not result in anything. Also some of Xavi's passes were superb with at least one absolutely outstanding.
