I'm not sure when we were offered Pjanic, but I have a feeling it was probably when we had other targets in mind. I believe our number one target was Yann M'Vila but that has only recently broke down.

We also seemed keen on bringing on Lucho Gonzalez or Jadson here, but neither of those happened, either.

Hazard and Götze are definitely not happening.

So I think our only possible remaining targets now are Marvin Martin, Yoann Gourcuff and Miralem Pjanic. Can't think of many other attacking midfielders we could realistically sign, unless we just pull completely out of nowhere again.

Rejecting Pjanic means that either Wenger has other targets lined up or he is satisfied with the ACM department. However this time I'd lean to it being a different target because Wenger did say we were short in midfield. May not be a creative player but any additional reinforcements are welcome (De Rossi/Martinez/M'Vila)

On today's transfer news:

Mertesacker: Good buy, 8 million for an established international and am Arsenal fan. Him sweeping while Vermaelen attacking the ball would seem a pretty good idea although his turning speed worries me a little. However Per's an experienced player who can probably adapt.

Santos: Good signing, suspect in defense but a vast improvement on the attacking front. 1 goal in 5 games proves that, and I expect him to do very well in the EPL.

Park: Again good signing especially for cover of VP. He can play on the wings as well so he is going to be a great squad player for us.

Overall very good, LW and a ACM/CM tomorrow would be a dream transfer window and if we got those 2 + Cahill, well... wake me up then

One thing that's not been mentioned about Mertesacker yet: he's picked up only 8 yellow cards in over 200 games. That's astonishing for a defender, and shows just how good he is at intercepting and tackling the ball cleanly.

Fulham are really set to splash the cash, with the Coattagers agreeing a fee of £10.6 million with FC TWente winger Bryan Ruiz.

Does this actually mean that we are looking at Dempsey?

Ju is quick off the mark, but doesn't have blistering pace. He's not as fast as Theo, I'm afriad, but does have a lot more technical ability.

I'm probably alone on this one, but i rate Mertesacker higher than Cahill.

Pace isn't everything in football, otherwise Walcott would the the best player on the planet

Make you wonder if Wenger was serious about this transfer season at the 1st place, the players he could brought in. I was the 1st one opposed Per move due to his pace but Imo wenger intend to switch back to the old Arsenal( counter attack) so he would be perfect right there.
