Yeah, but Arsenal barely buys anyone who's wanted by other clubs.
The ultimate cock blocks are ManC, anyways.

Re: Gervinho
I actually really want him, unlike a lot of people here. He's a tricky winger, who isn't easily bullied off the ball. He is more direct than many of our players, can finish well and has that bit of magic that is there when his team needs it the most.
Look at our players on the wings:
Nasri
Arshavin
Walcott
Compare them to Gervinho and you'll see that he adds something that we don't have

Not just that, but considering our beastly injury records, we need him for those games where we have no one to put there.
Seriously, I can't stand another Bendtner on the wings game.

Re: Gervinho
decent signing I supposed if the deal goes through. What I like about it is that AW shows his urgency for a change, hopefully this transfer season will continue in this fashion.

Re: Gervinho
Not a good signing imo. A decent signing, but not a good one. He's done well at Lille, but what else? He has no Champions League experience, and hasn't really faced world class defenders yet.
We will also be losing him to AFCON during January, which is when the big teams start to seperate from the small dogs.
Its not a bargain either. He's worth £12 million, no more, no less. Also. we've just spent alot of money in a position where we do not need reinforcements at all. An attacking winger? Really? What about a back-up DM? Clinical striker? Back up CB?
Wenger may be gearing up for Nasri's departure, but I honestly believe we don't need this type of player.
If he comes, I will obviously hope he does well though.

I think his hair is amazing.
On a serious note it would be a good signing.

The same could have been said about a large number of our attackers, though, and they all seem to do well.
Lack of Champions League experience isn't really an issue to me. He's won trophies with Lille, who play in a good league, and he's played at least some form of European football and has been to the World Cup. He already has plenty of experience at a good level.

£12,000,000 is a bargain in today's market, considering the season he's just had.
Also, when you consider that Rosicky is pretty much useless, Arshavin is inconsistent to the extreme, Walcott tends to drift in and out of good form and Nasri probably won't be at the club next season, then this area of the team suddenly does need a bit of reinforcement.
It's only June 6th. Other positions will be strengthend; there's already strong indicators that Samba will be joining.
Gervinho may be the first signing this summer, but that doesn't mean Wenger is ignoring other positions.

Re: Gervinho
But the thing is that can he play left wing? has he ever tried left wing? cause i've always seen him play right wing or CF. Anyway i trust Wenger and he may have a plan for him.

Re: Gervinho
I don't know if he can play left wing. Theoritcally as a player skilled in making his own space, he probably can play on the left hand side. I've no actual evidence to back that claim up, though.

Re: Gervinho
idk im not sold on his quality personally. however, he does offer some versatility. could be that 3rd striker plus he's a winger but better suited on the right where walcott plays....
i'd much rather us get hazard especially if we lose nasri, but i dont think gervinho is necessarily a bad signing

If he comes, we should all convince him to dye blonde then sit him next to Sagna everytime the team takes photos.

^^ :lol!:
I think more than a good/bad signing, a lot will depend on how AW deploys him. And what role he plays in the team.

Re: Gervinho
i think if arsenal sign him the formation is more or less got to be the same.
the plan "B" is also going to be the same. Instead of Bendtner who flopped on the wings arsenal have some one who is better in that position. But that depends how it turns out to be.
Plus wenger himself said he wanted to sign someone with world class quality this is not that.

Re: Gervinho
Arsenal have been stunned by Manchester City's recent hijacking of their move for Lille striker Gervinho.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, the Premier League big-spenders have swooped in to try to snap up the striker, which has destroyed Arsene Wenger's hopes of landing him for a bargain £8 million.
The 24-year-old is set to decide his future, and was expected to be keen on a move to the Emirates, but City's interest has rocked the move on the deal.
Sportsmail reported that a delegation from Manchester City have travelled to France in order to try to grab the player from Arsenal's noses, who have been monitoring Gervinho since he joined Lille two years ago.
The striker scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 last season to push Lille to a third title in their history, and is one of Europe's hottest properties now, especially since his contract has just 12 months to go.
Initially, Wenger was under the impression that a deal for the player was close, as Gervinho said he would only consider joining a club competiting in the UEFA Champions League next season, which left his other suitors- Newcastle, Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur- all disappointed.
However, with City's financial largesse, they could outmuscle Arsenal for the striker known as the next Didier Drogba.
The only positives for the London side is that Gervinho is an admirer of the Gunner's style of football, and considers a move to the Emirates a "dream" move.
He said recently: "I love the Premier League, but I have interest from Spain and Germany as well. There is a decision to be made, and I will make it in the next few days."

Re: Gervinho
Ask Platini. Supposedly next year?
Shitty hijacking deals is normal nowadays. Just ask Juventus
They're a pain in the ass and obviously do it on purpose just to me assholes and double prices. If they could, they'd have all the quality on the bench just to frak with the other teams.

Re: Gervinho
His agent has been interviewed by the Journal ( a Newcastle based paper) the article will be released tomorrow and has supposedly says Gervinho has'nt made his mind up where he is going to go yet.
Ofcourse any news coming from an agent should be taken with a pinch of salt but its an interesting development none the less.

Then again, there were also those reports which had his agent claiming that Arsenal would be a "dream move" for him. Agents, what a pity!

Yh we would better off without them tbh. And he did say that about Arsenal in 2009 tbh iam getting tired of this its turning into a saga i just want him to come out and say where he's going be it Newcastle, Arsenal , Manc City etc etc.
