It's not competitive as far as the actually winners go, but it's competitive as far as cl spot's, europa league spots and surviving relegation goes.
Still not as competitive as Serie A or EPL for my money but it's still no where near as bad as people will have you believe.
It's not full of 5-0 victorys to Barca and Madrid like some people to seem to think.

That is just not true at all, they are many many games throughout the season that are fantastic to watch and have a lot riding on it, they might not be for the title but for cl spot's etc etc.
By that logic there is point watching EPL outside of Chelsea and Man Utd because lets be frank they are the only two with a realistic chance of title( Maybe City) ok its alot closer but at the end of the day, it still ends up the same way.
This applies to Serie A aswell, who in Serie A can win it outside of Inter and Milan? no one, but that does'nt mean the other team's are not worth watching.

@Mole maybe it does lately seem that the trophy ends up at either United or Chelsea...but I love the competitiveness, the fact that the league is not easy to win and the fact that there are more bigger and more competitive games to watch.

Yh i agree, but my point is that they are plenty of quality to game's to watch outside of Madrid of Barcelona.....
Valencia v Villarreal for example are always exciting games and Sevilla v Pathetico Madrid and many many more...
Even Barca and Madrid thier games are competitive against people like Valencia and Villarreal and a couple of others.
They do usually win or draw at the very least, but its not normally a walk in the park for them....
I dont agree with the notion that it's worthless to watch outside of the Clasico.

Re: la liga should embrace the scottish comparison..
Manchester United has been dominating EPL since 92 winning it 12 times in 19 years.
I agree that apart from Barcelona and Madrid, teams seem to have dropped in quality, but those 8-0s that are being talked about are rare. And didn't the same thing happen in the PL too? The superiority of Barcelona and Madrid do not help either.
As Mole said, it is not as bad a people are making it out. The PL and other leagues maybe more competitive, but the difference is small!

It is true that all leagues are not actually competitive when it comes to winning the title, but the all the mjaor leagues aside from La Liga are showing genuine progress in that regard. In the other hand, La Liga is continuing the trend to a ridiculous level. And with more than half the teams in huge debt, you have to wonder at the future of the league. I would love to see La Liga improve its quality outside of the big two, but La Liga's officials and fans need to realize that there is a problem, and hence work on a solution.
It is ridiculous that a team qualifies for European cups but then gets banned from playing in them because of debt.

theres not a big difference.. ultimately apart from united and chelsea the other epl teams are chokers when it comes to winning the epl.. and the way chelsea scored 105 goals in the league in 2010 butchering teams 8-0,6-0 etc which wasm ore than madrid and barca could manage last season and the one before that .. hypocrisy

Re: la liga should embrace the scottish comparison..
The big problem in La Liga is the gap is only widening. No one can compete with Barca and Madrid financially. So to simply put it no one apart from Madrid and Barca are gone the win the league for the foreseable future. Can anyone seriously see even someone like Malaga competing for La Liga even in 5 years time? NO
Thats not the case in PL or Seria A.The financial imbalance is tilted towards Barca and Real similar to Celtic and Rangers in SPl thats why La liga is often compared to scottish league. Not the quality of football but the gap btw top 2 and other teams is only wideing every season kinda similar to SPL and unlike in EPL or Seria A.

Replace United and Chelsea with Real and Barca, replace Milan and Inter with Real and Barca and replace Bayern and Dortmund with Real and Barca all of them would be two horse races.

Fair enough, you should have clarified your post if you meant that. I was assuming that you were meaning just put Real and Barca without taking away any other teams. But even then they would not have a walk to the title.

they would.. i even feel they would win with some discomfort if inter / milan and united/ chelsea are there.. itll be very difficult but they will .and without them both rm barca will cruise.. i mean u cant expect arsenal liverpool . man city to show the consistency that madrid or barca are capable of showing.. and in serie itll be simpler. i mean come on, juve and roma arent at their best.. u cant expect napoli or udinese to keep touch with madrid and barca when villlareal , valencia couldnt

Re: la liga should embrace the scottish comparison..
gotta love la liga fans...whooooooosh over the top of their heads
since they implemented this in Scotland, Hearts havent exactly won the league.
The top teams still win, they just have to work for it
Man Utd got owned week after week away from home last year, Chelsea went 2 months hardly winning a game, arsenal won 1 in 14 or something in the run in...so how is the competitiveness the same?
Dont give me the Barca and Madrid are better nonsense, madrid especially still jointly dominated when they were pi55 poor 3 plus years ago
read carefully, this thread isnt about making Barca and Madrid lose, its about making them work for their victories

Re: la liga should embrace the scottish comparison..
Point-wise the EPL is much better compared to La Liga but the end result is the same. Two clubs battling for the trophy.
How many times has anyone other than Chelsea and United contended for the English league? Ever since 05-06 it has been United and Chelsea ending the season with Gold and Silver, except in 08-09 where Liverpool were runner-ups. Jump to La Liga and you'll see that Villarreal broke the dominance in 06-07 where they took the second place - almost the same scenario as in the EPL.
Going to Italy you'll also see that Serie A was a one-horse race with Inter winning the scudetto for years.

Re: la liga should embrace the scottish comparison..
FFS La Liga fans
Its not about who won the league, its about how hard they have to work to win it..these EPL comparisons are unnecessary.
Our midfield has reached 3 CL finals in 4 years, setting every record along the way.
Gosh our midfield sucks
FYI Arsenal were our main challengers last year, Chelsea only came into it when Arsenal fell away.
2 years ago lvpool were the main challengers while I expect City to be our main threat this year.
In no way is our leagues similar, if you think were about the same standard in terms of being made to work for it, then find another sport.
read this thread slowly and then post some salient points please.
ffs you have other teams in La Liga coming out with their fears about the league, but i am shocked... SHOCKED I SAY.... that the Spanish old firm dont think theres much wrong

I like all 3 league's and i guareentee you that if i similar thread was made on EPL or Serie A.
The outcome would be the same, maybe even worse.
And Cyber i dont think anyone is arguing the competitiveness is the same because EPL and Serie A are far more competitive on a game by game basis to the top 2 in those respective leagues.
The argument is that it's not as bad as being portrayed, it's bad yes but the dont stroll through every game like some people say.
Barca for example won alot of games last year and the year before by 1 or 2 goal margin as did Madrid.
I do agree there's alot wrong though, when theres a 20 point difference to 3rd place there has to be.

now its, meh, we all knew UTD would probably win, its so predictable.
gotta love it, the amount of times that the forum wrote us off is hilarious, Arsenal were considered better at one stage ffs

Of course its bad Mole, you can make arguments about City, Chelsea, Arsenal all challenging us next year, Liverpool are even being mentioned.
Not in Spain, and not for the foreseeable future. Its just more of the same.

I agree tbh, but at same time i only see City and Chelsea realistically challenging you next season. Tbh i hope iam wrong but that's how i see it.
As far as Spain goes Villarreal and Valencia have the players to challenge the problem in Spain is and i have said it before is the loser mentality the pretenders have.
Iam not sure why this is but there is a definite issue with mentality outside of Madrid and Barca.

Well Malaga are proving to be a big force now in La Liga and with Getafe starting to spend from next season along with Villareal atm and I would hope some more competition from Valencia as well.
I think the league will start to be more competitive now and as we move into the future with the reconstruction of TV rights as well as teams with lots of money come around to the playing field
Within a few years La Liga will be just as competitive anywhere else.
Alot of leagues go through periods like this and often worse. Look at AC Milan in the early 90's they dominated Serie A, Barcelona are doing the same now, Lyon made Ligue 1 a joke for 10 years and you have Inter's multiple championships in a row.
You have Man Utd and Chelsea and although I will admit the BPL has been competitive it's become almost predictable that Arsenal will drop away and Chelsea and Man Utd will be left to fight it out for the title. If Man City didn't get bought out by the sheiks I doubt there would be any threat to that top two domination for years to come.
Unfortunately La Liga's running parties are incompetent to say the least but eventually with cashed up clubs and TV right restructure La Liga will balance out, prob as much as any moment in La Liga history.
