Is the Next Messi Scottish?
The resemblance is uncanny. He doesn't have the pace & explosiveness to be anywhere near as good as Messi but their playing styles are eerily similar. He even has the same hairstyle as a young Messi.

But seriously he's been pretty good. But he's getting overhyped.. ln the SPFL scene atleast lol..We should really wait before anyone starts declaring him the next anything.

Re: Is the Next Messi Scottish?
He was on football focus last week, he doesn't really like to be compared to Messi. Anyway, he looks technically very good, and has already expressed wanting to play Champions League football in the future. If that means he has to switch clubs, I hope it's not the the immediate future, he's only 17/18 I think.

Re: Is the Next Messi Scottish?
Some similarities are there, but the kid is nowhere near as explosive as Messi is. Reminds me more of David Silva than Messi.
For a 17 year old his vision is fantastic.

He just signed a four year extension with Dundee.
Tbh though while he has promise l think he's just going to move to Celtic/Rangers in a few years. And if he excels with them and puts on some good performances in europe, then l can see him moving to other leagues.

Hmm looks more like David Silva, Özil than Messi from that video.

Re: Is the Next Messi Scottish?
apparently moyes has him signed up, wants him to stay for a year or two until he finishes growing then bring him down, hence the signing of a new contract.
look a good prospect.

and thats the catch. There always seems to be a handful of upcoming youngsters who resemble messis playing style, but they wont be anywhere near as good as him. Right now ive seen at least 4 youngsters compared with messi.

only 4?
theres around 100 youtube videos showing the "next" messi and they end up playing in division two or three teams.

Re: Is the Next Messi Scottish?
Truly hope his ability translates into the success that he is being hyped for. For a long time I have avidly supported the success of Republic of Ireland and Scotland and their talents. As of now Ireland's future looks rather bleak in the resignation of Trappatonni and no prospectus format change on the horizon. Scotland on the other hand seems to be churning out more fortune in their results and talents. Charlie Adam is a mid-table player yet remains solid and performs for Scotland. Ryan Jack of Aberdeen is promising; Barry Bannan has a superb footballing IQ and is already a performer for Scotland while James McCarthy is spectacular.
Hope he undertakes the progression of his career in optimum calculation.

Re: Is the Next Messi Scottish?
Acknowledging all the warranted caveats about overhyping any & all young talents, he does look like he has a little of that special x factor. Whether that translates into him being "merely" a good SPL player or maybe even better than that, we'll see. I love the moment in the video around 4:30 where his tenacity keeps him running deeper into the box even though the ball has been kicked away from him - exploiting the confusion of the defenders.
The Scottish ancestry within me is pleased.

Looks impressive with his dribbling and passing. The next stage for him would be to join Celtic.

Gauld is a beast, and still very young. Lots of time for him to turn into a world class player.

somewhere, in an unadorned basement room, there is an Anonymous Next Messis support group having a tear-filled meeting right this very moment.

I haven't watched a single match of his so I haven't a clue how good he is. Can all the people on GL that watch the SPL speak up now

Re: Is the Next Messi Scottish?
Diminutive, left-footed playmaker with great vision and close control, but has no where near Messi's explosiveness. Biggest strength from what I've seen is his ability to play penetrative passes; difficult to rate how good his dribbling is in a league like the SPL. Reminds me more of David Silva than Messi.
