race is a reality humanity will never escape... it's etched into history and it is lived and acted out every day, assuming otherwise is delusional

Can't disagree with anything you said there, El G. Well said.

As for SCOTUS, it's gotten worse today:

Coming to to an American storefronts near you: "We don't serve gays here."...."No gays allowed"......"Husbands and Wives only".....

Keep in mind a couple of things:

- Justice Sam Alito accepted gifts from a billionaire who lobbied for this result. That's textbook corruption.

- Prominent conservatives arguing against forgiving these student loans took out PPP loans themselves during the pandemic. Those loans were forgiven because they wrote the legislation that way. Essentially, they gave themselves a loan, at the US taxpayer's expense, in order to protect their businesses during the pandemic yet when those same taxpayers ask for forgiveness on their student loans, it becomes about "personal responsibility" and "you took out the loans, you pay them back". Fuck all of them.

The data in this article suggests black females have the same social mobility as white females. That is not to say that they don't face any hurdles at all as women of color but the outcomes are comparable.

"Black and white girls from families with comparable earnings attain similar individual incomes as adults."

So more importantly I think that the social perception of black men being potential criminals has to change no? To really attack the problem at its core, treat the symptom not the disease

Sorry for me not being in the loop, but glancing through this thread it seems that this decision makes it so you get admitted based on your grades and nothing else?

And why is that a bad thing?

Eh not really. Admissions to US colleges are based on grades, but also standardized tests, extra curriculars, "leadership", an essay, interviews, etc. There's enough wiggle room that colleges are able to design the kind of incoming classes they want.

Using Harvard again as an example, one lawsuit claimed that they attributed values like "bravery" far less often to Asians than other races.

Of the 3 recent supreme court decisions (ending AA, declaring the student loan cancellation illegal and legalized discrimination), the one I think will have far more impact and is getting talked about least is the last one. Imagine people being treated different just because of their race, sexual orientation or religion, that's the new law of the land.

I mean colleges can still consider race in admissions, in practice. You can write in the essay about your experiences as a minority and how it impacted you negatively. However it will be judged on individual basis and not just because you belong to a particular group

That's why this ruling really doesn't move the needle at all in favor of Asian Americans. They've put too many of their eggs in the SAT/ACT score basket and not enough in the others.
