European Union funding withheld from six Polish towns boasting abhorrently homophobic ‘LGBT-free zones’
https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/07/29/poland-lgbt-free-zones-towns-eu-funding-twin-city-homophobic/
Great news. I hope with the introduction of "Rule of Law" more funds will be retracted from us. Idiots the lot of them, fuck the east.

They should do the same about the freedom of speech in Hungary.

Yeah. We were all very disappointed about it, but it is sadly very typical Merkel to go for the big headline-grabbing win rather than covering her bases. On the other hand, not reaching that compromise would've been worse, so I guess we'll have to live with it.
But in the near future, the EU really, really, really, has to reign in the autocratic tendencies in Hungary, and frankly Poland as well, if it wants to survive.
It cannot continue to evolve into a Union with more coherence and solidarity, if we allow states to erode democratic institutions, and still receive funding.
The likes of Orbán openly mock the EU for exactly this kind of weakness. They must not be allowed to win.

Merkel/EU made a serious mistake. Things in Poland and Hungary will only deteriorate. In what way conditions in Poland, Hungary and to an extent in Romania (crime) and Bulgaria (corruption) are any better then non EU countries!VivaStPauli wrote:BarrileteCosmico wrote:Merkel gave Hungary a free pass to secure the coronavirus bailout. We're not doing great currently but it's not as bad as you think. We'll bounce back. Things in Hungary and Bulgaria are much worse.

I do not know why it is often assumed from the Western countries that Eastern Europe is not doing too well let alone Poland.
Similar to Americans calling EE undeveloped and unsafe whereas they are far more unsafe and majority of places there are a shithole.
Poland has upped its game massive in the last 13 years anyway. Still a long way to go. Similar assumptions are made of place like Russia, Romania.

Yep. We've made massive progress since joining the EU in 2004. There's been better and worse years obviously, more and less corrupt goverments, but I can't say we're not enjoying a good quality of life now (especially the Western half, we're kind of dividied in 2 because of partitions/complicated history). The LGBT stuff currently, and some freedom of press issues are brief and have the support of a minority (mainly catholics). Our problem is that we're a very christian country and that comes along with some backwardness, it'll take some more time to get rid of that, but more and more young people are declaring themselves atheist.
But yeah, we're doing better than what people from the outside would assume. No violent crimes too (you never hear of shootings/stabbings or anything really), i consider Poland very, very safe.

I hear such opinions mostly from Anglo countries in which they don't realise most places in Eastern Europe, to Poland are just cleaner and safer countries than the ones they live in. Huge misconception on it and having traveled there myself I agree.
Sepi most of all will lay testament to it given he has lived in Ukraine and been all over EE.
West of the Visula is indeed the best of Poland but Poland B should catch up soon based on the rapid progress of the nation in general.

I've been to Maidstone/Brighton/London and I loved it but was shocked at the amount of trash on the ground, in buses etc. It was quite stinky in some parts of London. You will not see that in Poland. You will not see trash on the sidewalk in Warsaw or anywhere really, especially in big cities.
Red brick buildings are my favorite though so I was like fish in water visiting England.
loved that these houses were everywhere, red brick not so common here

Poland is doing well economically.
Poland is doing badly societally, with the ruling party continuing to dismantle the partition of power, and the executive branch widening it's influence on the judicative one.
Similar problems trouble other Eastern European countries, like Hungary.
Others, like Slovakia, are doing very well. The idea of Eastern Europe being this underdeveloped backwater are nonsense, I agree with you there, and it's probably rooted in a fair bit of discrimination.

Russian women are definitely disproportionately beautiful. Sepi knows what he's talking about, we even had a saying that past our western border, to put it mildly, women didn't look as good anymore.

I would say more traditionally family oriented first of all, very unselfish and caring. Definitely more hard-working than most these days but that's mostly because life in Russia is a bit harsher and you have to be self-sufficient. Same goes for Ukraine. My god, the ratio of beautiful women there is off the charts. They are natural born models.

i won't deny they're some of the most beautiful women. Second only to Latinas imo. But staring from afar admiring beauty is one thing, and actually having a good time with them in person is another.

There is a saying in Russia....that if a man goes outside not looking well dressed, sharp, or with wrinkled or stained clothes, it speaks volume of his woman.
Hence Russian women are naturally more caregivers and take-carers. It could have changed in the latest generation, but that's usually been the case. They care so much about their style and looks, I read a study somewhere that an average russian woman spends 33% of her income on beauty and wellness product (gym/make up/ healthy diet) etc...
However, I've talked to many Russian girls who don't like Russian men mostly due to excessive drinking or overall sense of entitlement. when it comes to foreigners, they are on average attracted to more Mediterranean look, hence why they vacation in Turkey lots and that's where they have their fun (if they are unfaithful). Russian girls can be super cunning though and boy if they smell weakness they pounce. Strong man with strong frame can navigate through their shit-tests and game.
Also, this may come as a surprise. I've never met girls of any country who drink LESS than Russian girls. About half the Russian girls I have known never or barely drink. stark contrast to Poland for example or well, pretty much all Western nations.
As for humour, it's different. these are VERY direct people, so if you have a thin skin, good luck. But the funniest TV series I've ever watched in my life was a Russian one. I watched the whole thing twice. Here is the first episode with Eng subtitles.

This is not a surprise to me at all and you more than anyone here will lay testament with your Eastern Europe travels.
Im rather averse to clubs in general but my best experiences were in Bucharest and Budapest where the ratio of men to women were the same in such places along with the sheer quality.
We know how it is in Anglo speaking clubs as the quality control there generally does not exist.
As for Russian women the most accurate point Sep made is about them pouncing on weakness. Extremely feminine women but generally lean towards masculine roles and do tend to lean towards financially stable men as well.
Hard to generalise but as a whole Russian women are very well kept even if going out to buy a pack of smokes. This goes for Eastern Europe in general, by the way.
Having tried to learn Russian for the longest time, failing then beginning again and repeat, I have to say it has come out to be one of the most useful languages to learn and any Slav or speaker of the general contingent of languages will know why. Very difficult to learn given its amount of cases. And as a result reading their literature to their humour yes its very dry but has a lot of nuance. Though mine is not at the level to understand its finer points since I still struggle and only use Duolingo to rebuffer what I've lost through time.

Re: Political Correctness, LGBTQ, #meToo and other related topics
I've personally met more attractive, Polish women than Russian or Ukrainian ones. Generally speaking, I'm quite happy with the physical appearance of Scandinavian women, but like a Thai colleague of mine has pointed out a few times, a lot of the women here look comparatively masculine compared to women from other countries.
Norwegian women, in particular, tend to dress quite practical rather than presentative or feminine. They're also quite tall. Foreign women, and especially Eastern European and Asian tourists that enjoy the nightlife here, tend to stand out by looking far more dolled up, being typically shorter, and with more narrow and slender figures. I've met a lot of women with gorgeous faces here, who were 180cm+ and had relatively broad shoulders. It's not for everyone.

I will not disagree
Though I would say Swedish or Norwegian women are up there too. I love the blonde hair+blue eyes combo. Everyone in my family has blue eyes
