Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Saw the first half of England vs Argentina.
Apart from Parris missing the penalty while I watch the game in Paris.
Its STILL ALIVE. Women still play to the whistle, they'd rather cry and drag their asses out of the field on their feet rather than rolling 10 times and getting a stretcher. I am so proud, been promoting their football since 2010.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Argentina aren't very organised, but they play with a lot of heart and have been determined not to be an easy three points for anybody.
I was getting worried when their keeper was playing a blinder. Fortunately, they got overzealous on a counter and gave us the space to counter them instead. That cross from Mead was beautiful.
England were impatient throughout a lot of this match. Their attackers kept trying to do too much, especially Mead, and there were a lot of overhit passes in the final third. Hopefully this improves as the tournament goes on.
The dilemma Phil Neville has is whether to stick with an out-of-sorts of Kirby or play Stanway after her breakout season. There's also Toni Duggan to come back from injury.

That was a rough goal to give up by Cameroon. Awful marking on that free kick.

Right team won today. Dutch looked more convincing and resolute as the game wore on. Cameroon have some good players, but we're just not good enough in both phases of the game as a unit. Paid the price for terrible decision-making in the final 3rd and some terrible defending on the goals.
Entertaining match though.

BBC says they can still go through with a third place finish if they can beat new zealand. That would be something to see.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Miedema is 22 and has 60 international goals in 70-something caps. I know women's football can throw up some crazy stats, but that's really impressive.
Actually, is there a better forward than her at this tournament? Genuinely don't know about other strikers, but I've seen a lot of Miedema at Arsenal and for the Netherlands and she's total class.

Happy to see Sam Kerr get 4 and for Aus to go through.
Also big news that Brazil is now out.

are they though? Why is there a round of 16 but only 6 groups? Does that mean some 3rd place teams can go through?Kick wrote:Happy to see Sam Kerr get 4 and for Aus to go through.

They are, they play Norway in the knockout stages.
I assume the best 3rd places must go through too.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Man I really wish we used a different anthem for international matches. Makes us look terrible next to England. Everybody can sing the anthem on their team and on their bench but we cant because ours isnt even in actual Japanese, and if they can its embarrassing.
