For one, the issue is more nuanced than "equal play equal pay" would habe you believe (as most one line chants would).
For two, entertainment is a business and it's one where your value depends on how many people are willing to watch your product. If the numbers indicate that women bring in more revenue (and other similar forms of monies) for USSF than the men, they should be paid more. If they bring in less, it should be less. I don't think they should be paid equally just because. Otherwise WNBA players should be making same as NBA no?
However I wholeheartedly intend to support women's soccer in the US and given ways to watch it that aren't completely inconvenient, would certainly do so on occasion. There is certainly a gap in development that needs addressing, despite my belief that their pay should be commensurate with monies coming in.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
IIRC She's boycotting them.
A very brave decision and the right one as well.
(Reuters) - Women’s Ballon d’Or winner Ada Hegerberg says she quit the Norwegian national team after being left “mentally broken” and suffering nightmares, but her comments brought a stinging rebuke from Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard.
Olympique Lyonnais forward Hegerberg, 23, will work at the women’s World Cup in France as a TV pundit instead of leading the Norway attack, having said previously she quit international football in 2017 due to a dispute with her home federation about how women’s football is treated in the country.
“It was tough at so many camps. I have been broken mentally,” Ada Hegerberg told Norwegian newspaper Morgenbladet and soccer magazine Josimar.
“It has been a deeply depressing feeling. I had nightmares after being with the national team, you shouldn’t have things like that. If you want to get anywhere in life you have to make choices.
“Immediately the thought came into my mind - ‘I think I’ll have to stop playing for the national team’. (Then) everything just ran off and I started to sleep well again.”
The Norwegian association has since agreed to double the remuneration pot for women from 3.1 million Norwegian crowns ($354,987) to 6 million crowns, but Hegerberg remains steadfast in her decision to boycott the national side.
She told CNN last month this was a cause she believed in.
“I was really honest with the national team representative. What I felt wasn’t good enough – it’s not good enough,” she said.
A very brave decision and the right one as well.

She left of her own accord. Something about her feeling that she was being treated unfairly by the football association. She used to take every opportunity to complain about it publically, but she seems to have stopped doing it after Martin Odegaard, of all people, told her «alright, we get it» on social media She’s clearly a talented and successful athlete, and I hope she’s realized by now that it’s pointless to whine about the past.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
I personally think "whine" is too strong a term for pointing out the wrongs experienced as a member of the NT. She has principles and they didn't line up with the NTs so she severed ties with them. That's a pretty mature decision where as "whining" makes her sound like she's being immature, which by all accounts that I've read, she isn't. I think Odegaard's take was way off base in that regard.
