Re: World Cup 1998 vs World Cup 2006
I was not able to see the 98 World Cup so I would have to go with the 06 one. I must say, as far as I know, 02 WC for me was the one with more quality.

98 for me was much better quality wise. 2006 was dominated by drab horizontal play, Italy vs Germany though was a classic.

That's just one game (even though it's one of the greatest of all time) we are discussing about the quality of both tournaments as a whole.

It's in the Thread description. Well, can't blame you since it's really hard to see.

Re: World Cup 1998 vs World Cup 2006
98 was the first world cup i saw but for me 2006 was better mainly because of Germany though.
2006 Germany was a joy to watch even if they didnt win it.
Agree 98 had more quality matches and surprises than 2006.

Re: World Cup 1998 vs World Cup 2006
98 by far, Netherlands - Argentina, Netherlands- Brazil was classic. Shame that Dutch lost on penalties to Brazil, that Holland squad was incredible, I still can't believe how they didn't win that World Cup and Euro 2000. In that time imo Netherlands were the best team in the world, shame that they were so unlucky with penalties. As for World Cup 98 another good game was Croatia - Germany in 1/4, 3-0 for Croatia;) The beginning of Italy vs France rivalry in 1/8, Bergkamp goal vs Argentina, Davids goal vs Jugoslavia, Denmark close to upset Brazil, so many good matches. 98 WC was the last truly great WC, the quality of football dropped from that time.

Re: World Cup 1998 vs World Cup 2006
They both weren't very great football-wise, imho, but 2006 was better oganized, better athmosphere, etc., they also both would totally kick 2010s ass...
I might be biased, though, because we sucked ass in 1998

Re: World Cup 1998 vs World Cup 2006
Individual player quality? 1998 for sure. Baggio, Zidane, Ronaldo9, Matthaus, Kahn, Klinsmann, Del Piero, Henry, Schmeichel, Lehmann, Buffon, Bergkamp, Cannavaro, Nesta, Thuram, etc. 2006 probably had better teamwork though, and still had alot of individual quality with Del Piero, Totti, Cannavaro, Podolski, Klose, Ballack, Lahm, Zidane, Henry, Trezeguet, Nedved, Figo, and CR7.. Quality of matches, itwas about the same. Id say 1994 and 1990 had the best quality of matches, probably quality overall too.

That settles the arguement.

Re: World Cup 1998 vs World Cup 2006
1998 was the first PROPER football tournament I watched so I'll always remember it.
Zamorano and Salas for Chile, Bergkamp's goal against Argentina, Blazevic's Croatia, and Laurn Blanc kissing Barthez's head before KO of every game
