Re: GAME OF THRONES - PART 9 - *NO BOOK TALK - READ THE RULES*
They should have just made this season 10-12 episodes, I don't understand the reasoning behind a 6 episode season. Makes no sense whatsoever.
I'm enjoying the show either way, plot holes or not, visually it's a show like no other.

I find it hard to believe HBO wanted to hurry up and be done with GOT.
As far as we know HBO wanted to continue with GOT for forever. It's also why we are getting the spinoffs shows. D&D (and probably some of the cast) wanted to move on.

Director David Nutter says CGI prevented Jon Snow from giving Ghost a proper goodbye — ‘Since the direwolves are kind of CG creations, we felt it best to keep it as simple as possible … It played out much more powerfully that way.’

Re: GAME OF THRONES - PART 9 - *NO BOOK TALK - READ THE RULES*
Co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have said that the seventh and eighth seasons would likely comprise fewer episodes, stating that after the sixth season, they were "down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We're heading into the final lap".[47][48] Benioff and Weiss stated that they were unable to produce 10 episodes in the series' usual 12 to 14-month timeframe, as Weiss explained, "It's crossing out of a television schedule into more of a mid-range movie schedule".[47] HBO confirmed in July 2016, that the seventh season would consist of seven episodes and would premiere later than usual in mid-2017 because of the later filming schedule.[49] Benioff and Weiss later confirmed that the eighth season would consist of six episodes, and would premiere later than usual for the same reason.[50]
Benioff and Weiss said about the end of the series: "From the beginning we've wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it's stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we're coming to the end. It would have been really tough if we lost any core cast members along the way, I'm very happy we've kept everyone and we get to finish it the way we want to".[50] The first two episodes are, respectively, 54 and 58 minutes long, while the final four episodes of the series are all more than an hour in length—episode three is 82 minutes (making it the longest episode of the series), episode four is 78 minutes and the last two are each 80 minutes.[51]
From wiki. So there were some factors at play. First, D&D originally wanted to do a 70 hour 7 season series. They eventually realized they needed 73 hours, which after HBO's prompting they split into seasons 7 and 8. Second, the episodes had become so long that they ran out of time using a normal TV schedule for filming, which is another reason for why the seasons are shorter. And third there seems to be some concern that the longer the series goes on the likelier it is they will lose some cast members, so they wanted to mitigate this risk.

Re: GAME OF THRONES - PART 9 - *NO BOOK TALK - READ THE RULES*
The seasons being rushed is a big part of the problem. But there's something else that bothers me thats not really due to shorter reasons. inb4nitpickinghatecirclejerk
The show at a lot of points does not feel like its in a medieval high fantasy setting. The dialogue sounds very modern now, and they use a lot of modern phrases and idioms. Last season it was very noticeable when they used words like "dick" and "school." The manner of speaking in earlier episodes were very different, look at Ned and Robert talking or Tyrion and Tywin.
"You're the leader of a great nation"
“We are damn good leaders”
"I can respect that"
"You want a good girl, but you need the bad pussy."
Out of context, these really don't sound like they belong in GOT.
The biggest thing for me was this episode, Brienne feeling shamed for being a virgin. In Westeros every highborn girl is supposed to be a virgin before marriage. It was a big thing for Margaery that she never had sex with Renly, that left her free to marry Joffrey. Same with Sansa and Tyrion. But Brienne leaves embarrassed after playing a drinking game of Never Have I Ever. Feels more like an American college than Westeros.
And don't accuse me of nitpicking, seven hells, immersion was a big part of the show. Dialogue deteriorated a lot. There are a lot of one liners and quips. Arya seems to just have a random line generator of popular quotes from previous seasons.
And the humor, I feel they really go overboard with "adult" humor. Its like they know they are popular for being and R-Rated show so they go for adult jokes. I don't like the crassness it was evident to me on rewatching the latter seasons. Pycelle farting after seeing the Mountain, actor in Braavos having genital warts, Tyrion's endless cock jokes, Bronn fucking a girl who has pox, fermented crab = viagra. I prefer things like "I always had blue eyes" more than this cringe.

To focus on the positive side: some of the acting this season has been outstanding! Emilia Clarke, absolutely killed her scenes and that dude who plays Grey Worm, holy shit he looked like he was about to actually vomit when Missandei got beheaded. Missandei too in her final scene.
The actors are giving their all despite the mess that is the script so massive credit to them.

This x100
Emilia Clarke was outstanding last ep. Gwendoline Christie and Jacob Andersen killed it too. The actors are really great, John Bradley killed it in the first ep, even Sophie Turner has been really good this season.

Agreed, the acting has been honestly some of the best work the series has shown. Glad these men and women brought their A game, can't say the same for some people.

Re: GAME OF THRONES - PART 9 - *NO BOOK TALK - READ THE RULES*
If I'd blame anyone on it feeling rushed, I'd think it should be on HBO and WB.
I doubt D&D would mind 10 episodes, since writers are usually paid on a per episode basis.

Well it's still like one of the best shows ever made and we are massively going to miss it once it's over.
As BC said few pages back, just enjoy it for what it is and try to ignore the bad stuff.

Re: GAME OF THRONES - PART 9 - *NO BOOK TALK - READ THE RULES*
So, the penultimate episode of the series is tomorrow. Its bound to be a banger with Sapochnik directing. Those guaranteed to die IMO are
Cersei, Euron, Qyburn - Obvious the endgame villains are dying.
Varys - Melisandre said it last season. With the way the plot is going, Dany will kill him.
The Mountain and The Hound - Cleganebowl will claim both brothers. Arya to mercy kill Hound, she knows where the heart is.
Jaime - Hopefully a heroic death.
Daenerys, Drogon, Grey Worm - Mad Queen is not surviving and her dragon and chief lieutenant will be goners by association.
In the medium tier of danger is Tyrion, Davos, Podrick and Brienne. All the Starks are in the low tier along with Sam/Gilly and Tormund. Last episode felt like the end of their arcs. Sam will write A Song Of Ice And Fire.
I just wonder how much the deaths will be spaced out between tomorrow and the finale. Could see Team Cersei and others being wiped out this ep and Daenerys in the finale. Jon Snow goes beyond the Wall to live out the rest of his days with Ghost and the wildlings. God knows about the Iron Throne. Its either democratically elected Sansa or the Seven Kingdoms going independent again like pre Aegon's Conquest. Fitting with the death of the last dragon.

Yeah, I mentioned early how it feels like they're checking checkbox items without consideration for the characters, and this guy put that feeling into a much more eloquent theory

Re: GAME OF THRONES - PART 9 - *NO BOOK TALK - READ THE RULES*
M99 save some plot for the finale. But I pretty much agree with everything.
Only doubt I have is if there still is a nights watch? Given that the long night ended I don't see the point. But j could see exile in the north.
Edit: after further thought I now think that the Mad queen is a fake out and it will be Cersei who burns the red keep (bringing the vision of the iron throne in snow/ashes true). If she can't have it then no one will. Jaime will die either trying to prevent this or killing her as a result of this.

I did say all the deaths will be split between two episodes.
Yeah, you could very well be right. Mad Queen is likely to be a fake out to "subvert expectations" Like that dumb Arya vs Sansa feud last season for that last minute Littlefinger swerve.
Cersei burning Kings Landing so Dany can be queen of the ashes is poetic. Its exactly why Jaime killed Aerys. Would love to see his reaction to it.
Then again he didn't care when she bombed the Sept and killed hundreds of innocents, including his uncle (:

Can't behind this Daenerys turning evil angle at all. 8 seasons of her character development just so she turns mad and gets killed by jon/arya. Pretty awful.
Not sure why Jaime needs to die at all? but yea i hope it is heroic and he dies saving Tyrion or killing cersei
Kinda hope Cersei outlives everyone imo. But kinda don't care who sits on the throne now. Least interesting arc atm.
Jon going back beyond the wall seems like the best ending for him tbh. That life is for him.

Cersei is guaranteed to die, and that in turn dooms Jaime. They came into this world together, they'll leave together. The only way I see him survive is him being the 1000th LC of the Nights Watch. But Nights Watch is done and there is zero reason to have them any more. Wildlings have made peace, White Walkers are done. Unless Bran ominously says "There must always be a Night King" and the White Walkers will eventually return in which case Jaime rebuilds the Nights Watch. Or Jon under his real name.
