Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
It's come Balague, Kike Marin (remember him?) and some supposed Bundesliga expert Lee Price (his news is being reported in the Express, where no respectable journo has their stuff published).
Some have pointed out the timing is a little too convenient, given there wasn't a peep about this until before we lost.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I miss the old Arsenal. Somehow it feels like we were better before we started winning trophies again lol.
Or maybe the other teams were just catching up to us and now they have not only done that but surpassed us.
Not sure we'll be in the CL again next season since there are 5-6 teams better than us. Winning EL is a pipe dream because absolutely no way we are beating the likes of Atletico or Roma or Dortmund.
Not in the slightest interested in the Craparo cup.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The really confusing part our decline is working out why we targeted a different type of player.
Like, how did we go from Van Persie, Fabregas, Rosicky, Hleb, Nasri and Arshavin to Gervinho, Welbeck, Podolski, Chamberlain and Giroud?
We went from having very good technical players to stocking up on pace merchants and forwards.
The old Arsenal used to lack the longevity to last a season but all it needed was a bit of power in the squad to help us through tough periods.
Now its like we go after the most robust, athletic players we can find but at the expense of technique. The current squad is tougher but gets outplayed by Bournemouth lol.
You know it's bad when you're missing guys like Song and Denilson because they had more reliable technique than Elneny and Xhaka.
TBH I miss the days where we played Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla and Ozil in the same starting eleven. That was a fun team.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Exactly. That's what I keep tweeting about every now and then.
You know the biggest downfall or gradual decline over the years? It's the slowly evaporating intelligence in the team.
Rosicky was one intelligent player. Hleb was a master. Recently saw a video of his 2nd leg performance again Milan. He made the likes of Nesta look like fools. Nasri was technically insane. RVP is still the greatest technical player we have had since bergkamp. Ozil might be on the same level though. Arshavin was supremely gifted. A true genius. Arteta we all know about.
But now when you see dumb as *bleep* players like Welbeck and Iwobi trying to pass. No creativity in the bone. Won't know the meaning of spatial awareness. It really is a downfall.
I hate myself for criticising Cazorla. I really wish he was fit. Completely agree about that team. It was such a fun team with Ramsey, Cazorla, Arteta, Ozil together. Or even before when we had Denilson, Song and Diaby. At least we played with entertainment.
Oh well.
Maybe it will all improve once Arsene leaves. Or maybe it won't. Maybe we all will just become insensitive and indifferent to Arsenal as most are already.

The current team was slaughtered 5-1 at Bayern and 4-0 at Anfield. What's your point?

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Yeah ok but the reason this team isn't there anymore is because of injuries.
Cazorla is a crock, Wilshere was permainjured, Arteta was physically finished.
I don't think this Arsenal is so different. I think if you get another technically strong attacker in in place of the ego-pig Alexis who if we're honest wasn't that good at combining or passing, with Wilshere back and Ramsey, Lacazette, Özil, you can have fluent and attractive attacks in no time. I honestly think Mkhitaryan would be great.
About players like Rosicky, well they don't make them like that anymore. Rosicky was an exceptional player, would easily be a top 3 player in this current league, but of course also permainjured.

Arsenal set to offer €50 million for Bordeaux player Malcom and a contract of 5 years, according to Goal and Globo Esporte. They say that his agents are in Europe to finalize the transfer.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Nah Jay is right, this is most Un-Arsene like Arsenal team in his entire tenure as Arsenal manager.
There's a severe lack technical ability, guile, intelligence and just general class in the entire team.
This team has more in common with Mourinho or Conte than it does Wenger.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Our fluid play died when Cazorla got injured. He was the only one who could transition the ball from midfield to attack quickly and accurately.
But I wouldn't exactly call our past midfield in the last 5 years better than what we have now. Denilson only passed sideways and is just as worst defender as Xhaka. I wouldn't exactly call Song technically better than Xhaka. Diaby was perma-injured so shouldn't even count. Arteta had no legs (but I more blame Wenger's 4-1-4-1 Arteta as sole DM formation).
Sure we played good football but we got beaten by mid-table teams as well. We were carried by one man teams in that era (Fabregas and then VP).

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Aubameyang has handed in a transfer request according to Bild, made a joke about visiting London in a livestream, followed a bunch of our players on Instagram (and Bellerin followed back) in the space of 24 hours.
I thought Dortmund would never sell but he is acting really desperately.

Just wish the Mkhitaryan rumour would wash away but it looks like he’ll be included in the Alexis deal.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We're getting £20m for Walcott if he goes to Everton.
https://twitter.com/_pauljoyce/status/953132252212465664
Got nearly 400 appearances out of him, scored over 100 goals and being sold for a profit. Not bad business at all, overall.
There's also talk of Giroud being sent to Dortmund with Auba coming the other way.
We've been due a clear out but losing Walcott, Giroud and Alexis in the same window means we're losing over 250 goals in one go We best hope we have guys coming in who can hit the ground running.

Losing 250 goals
As long as those coming are already prolific, it shouldn't be an issue

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We should be fine if we sign all three (Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan and Malcom). Big if, but that looks like the plan.
Aubameyang should get Alexis' numbers this season at worst, and Alexis' goals overall at his best.
Mkhitaryan looks kinda finished as a top player but if we can get him back to his Dortmund efficiency then he will add both goals and assists.
Lacazette, if we improve our game with Mkhitaryan and Malcom will have bigger numbers as well, certainly good enough to replace Giroud's.
And finally Malcom is such an improvement on Walcott it isn't even a debate.

Speaking of Malcom.....
Bordeaux President Stéphane Martin on Malcom: "We have never had a discussion with Arsenal... They can always try, but they will struggle to take him from us.”
