Re: The Movie House - Part 9
Saw Hacksaw Ridge yesterday. 3.5/5
Best part: the cinematography has to be up there as one of the best I have seen from the war genre. Some of the war stunts were also original and refreshing. Basically the second half of the film is 4.5/5 while the first half is nothing but generic and mediocre. Garfield while not tremendous is easily the best thing acting wise.
Worst part: nothing more than a oh-we-have-to-glorify-our-war-heroes American movie. I also think the way the film was portraying the faith angle it came off borderline pro-religious.

Re: The Movie House - Part 9
He's at stage 2 of 3 now imo
Stage 1 = Teenage heartthrob and mainstream notice (The notebook)
Stage 2 = great actor of a generation
Stage 3 = superstardom. He hasn't reached it yet. The point where he headlines a super successful commercial movie and combines it with the first two steps.
Not many actors become superstars, but I think he'll get there with Blade Runner

It's a genre I enjoy, I will watch Funny Games and get back at you. I recommend you Jacob's ladder in case you haven't seen it.Glory wrote:Yea I forgot. Babadook was an Australian film, my bad. (But I am wondering how could I in the first place, especially considering there was even a specific scene in it of that kid making a weapon with a cricket bat lol)
Shining was brilliant imo. It was more a psychological thriller. The way that film was made its so fkin creepy.
Talking of psychological thrillers there was one film tho that kinda scarred me for life lol. Funny Games, the original German one, not its Hollywood remake. It was disturbing to say the very least. Haneke is one goddamn sonofabiatch.
For those who havent experienced it, highly recommending it. Check it out. Its kind of a masterpiece.

Train to Busan (2016)
8/10
Really really good. Koreans!! Thats how you make a solid zombie movie. Enjoyed it. One helluva ride.
Drama might feel a bit over the top at times but hey thats how Asians generally prefer to do it lol and I dont think anyone can fault us for that. Because when it works (most of the time) some truly memorable films are the result, like that epic Grave of the Firefiles for one.
Heard Hollywood is remaking it. Inb4 some pleb direct it and cast some jobbers in the corresponding roles and turn this into a pile of crap.

- SPOILER:
- It was a very metaphorical film I felt. The fact that they made humans(the evil exec guy who ultimately became the boss zombie lol, the hero up to a point and several other people) more selfish and sinister than the actual zombies was really a unique and at the same time genuine way to look at things I felt. Even amid all those 100s and 100s of zombies in that train, its the thuggery and selfishness of a few people headed by that exec guy were the things that stood out more. And also the zombies in this movie were quite dumb, or at least the way the way they were portrayed (cant see in the dark, cant open the door) and humans were far more superior in intelligence(I know it is that way normally lol but they overemphasized on that aspect in this film kinda deliberately. I for one got the feeling hence the writer of this didnt even want to make it a typical zombie apocalypse film, the intentions were pretty clear cut. Both the protagonist and the antagonist in this was man, zombies were just a catalyst to bring about the change in them, thats all

Arrival is 8.8/10 in my ratings which makes it best rated 2016 film (still haven't seen La La Land). You plebs need to get with the program.

Very good list but Prisoners, Sicario, The Martian, Spotlight, Ex Machina, Her, Edge of Tomorrow are all missing. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more.

Re: The Movie House - Part 9
Did I miss something, when did The Wolf of Wall Street become a great
It was a fun movie, but let's leave it at that. Fury Road is miiiiiiles better than it, and up there with Inception, Black Swan, Blue Valentine, Drive, Inside Llewyn Davis, Prisoners, Gone Girl, Interstellar and Her as the best of the decade thus far.

Re: The Movie House - Part 9
I actually liked Arrival more than Interstellar. Interstellar was the biggest disappointment this decade for me. Was so hyped for it but ended up being pretty mediocre to me. It was well shot though. Just quite boring.
Super hyped for Nolan's Dunkirk though
