Finally, a nice thread to post into it. Came here after reading the Summer Transfers Rumours threads, which is full of mere words.

On-topic: How can you describe last seaon's Dortmund performance under Tuchel compared to the old Dortmund (Klopps)? What are the differences in the way the team progresses? I didn't watch Bundesliga last season and I am curious, maybe someone can tell me a few words about this.

Dortmund play with more control as opposed to pressing high and push the opponent to make mistakes. This is evident in the point tally aswell, Dortmund have improved a lot at beating crappy teams with consistency and subtly got worse at beating the big teams because they don't have the chaotic side that confused the big teams anymore.

Well, you can play with more control and also press high at the same time. Like Barcelona did in 2010/2011. And it fkin worked. Laughing

I think it's better to make beating small teams a routine and try hard to create your way to beat stronger teams by getting your own style of play to another level after time passes. Bigger chances to win Bundesliga for them.

I wish them good luck in the new season, I'll be their fan in Bundesliga because of that generation with Lewandowski, Gotze, Gundogan etc. Emotional memories have a big impact on me. Laughing

Barcelona had an incredible squad of players though which Dortmund don't. If you ask me Dortmund are getting worse and worse since the Lewandowski/Götze days, especially this summer they are making some Schalke-esque signings.

I'm looking forward to seeing Borussia M'gladbach play this season, too. They may have lost Granit Xhaka and the old men in their defense, but they got some exciting fresh young players, too.

I don't know man...  Reus, Auba, Ousmane Dembele and Adrian Ramos makes a very formidable front line.  Add to that the signing of Guerreiro, the starting LB for Portugal who was excellent in Ligue 1 last season, to go with guys like Bender, P---check, Ginter, Weigl, Durm, Schmelzer, etc.

That's one heck of a team.

Borussia Dortmund have a knack to find great talent for years. Plus they have (and had) a coach who is able to make the best of them.

As a matter of fact, I'm really curious how Ilkay Gündogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will do in the PL. Gündogan might find the PL a bit taxing with his frequent injury problems, and for some reason I doubt that Mourinho will pamper Mkhi as much as Kloppo and Tuchel did at Dortmund.

How good is Kevin Volland??? I'm a bit perplexed that Leverkusen paid that much for a player.

Kevin Volland is one of those very rare specimen in German football - a guy who can capably play as centre forward. Many people think that Jogi Löw should have taken him along to the Euro as then there would have been a replacement available for Mario Gómez after his injury.

Good attacking talent and a mediocre midfield/defence (aside from Weigl and Sokratis). Still need to sign a top CB, CM and GK.

Even in attack they need another attacking midfielder to replace Mkhitaryan.

Pity that Christian Pulisic is still so young and thus likely still too inconsistent. But I think he can become of of the next "next best things" at AM.

Changing of the guard:

After Borussia Dortmund named Roman Bürki the new Nr.1 in goal last season and put veteran keeper and World Champion Roman Weidenfeller onto the bench except for the DFB-Pokal matches, now VfL Wolfsburg officially named Koen Casteels their new number 1, while Diego Benaglio will only play in the DFB-Pokal games from now on.

Nonetheless, Diego Benaglio decided to extend his contract two more years until 2019, and he will stay the official captain of the team, even though in the Bundesliga matches Luis Gustavo will wear the captain's armband.

Casteels is doing great, good call. And Benaglio must be really happy at the club to go along with it, seems like all parties involved hat the proverbial "good talk" - only in actuality.

From what they write it seems that Diego Benaglio will stay at Wolfsburg even after his active career, possible as goalkeeper coach or something like that. Sounds like a very good prospect for him them.
