The Bundesliga Thread
Now that the Bundesliga clubs are in their training camps and working to get their fitness back and while the first test matches are well under way, I decided to set up this fresh and shiny thread for the Bundesliga Rückrunde 2014/15 (the second part of the Bundesliga season after the winter break).
The next matchday will start on Friday, the 30 January 2015 at 20:30 GMT+1 with the top match VfL Wolfsburg vs Bayern München.
Final table of the Hinrunde:

English lacks a handy word for that. In German we have "Hinrunde" (first part of the season, matchdays 1-17) and "Rückrunde" (matchdays 18-34).rwo power wrote:Bundesliga Rückrunde 2014/15 (the second part of the Bundesliga season after the winter break).

Just like first and second leg are called 'Hinspiel' and 'Rückspiel'.

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
If anybody wonders what Michael "I don't want to manage small clubs anymore" Laudrup is doing these days - he's keeping himself busy.
Today he was coaching the "Qatar Allstars" team that played and lost a test against Bayern, on top of his steady gig at the Lekhwiya Sports Club.

Of course. I would even link a Rot-Weiß Essen thread if there was one, as much as it would pain me.

Reverse round (of fixtures)?
Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding was that the Rückrunde fixtures are the reverse legs of the Hinrunde fixtures (although not necessarily in the same order).

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
You are right. The matches of the "Rückrunde" are the "Rückspiele" ("reverse fixtures", "second legs"?) of the season. And they are played in the same order as the Hinrunde.
But "reverse round" sounds somewhat weird, too, I would say ^^

let's just call it "offense round" and "revenge round"

Meh!Hapless_Hans wrote:I am making one right now. Copy-pasting from wikipedia as we speak.
I guess then both people speaking English and German would be confused. So better use the proper term and give an explanation I'd say. Won't harm the hipsters to learn some German football terms eitherHapless_Hans wrote:let's just call it "offense round" and "revenge round"
By the way: http://www.bundesliga.com/en/liga/news/2013/0000226598.php (not 100% perfect, but a start ^^)

Does that imply that all teams which lost against Bayern will exact revenge from them? Also, does that go on to imply that BVB will exact revenge from all the teams which trashed them?
If yes, I REALLY like the sound of that
(I know that wanting revenge and actually exacting revenge are two different things )

I think reverse fixtures is the safest and closest bet, then.

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
Well, you can be sure the teams would like to take revenge on Bayern. And I hope that at least some of them can steal a couple of points from them ^^

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
Hinrunde is where someone is offended, and Rückrunde is where they can have their revenge.
Hence, "offense round" and "revenge round".
RWO, not that it would harm anyone to learn German words (I think, not sure), but we have the unique opportunity to just make up and introduce words and translations as we please.
So I'd say we stick with using 'Grottenkick' even in English sentences (missing it in the Bundesliga dictionary btw), but then say "the revenge round has started with a flurry of away wins yesterday" as if that really was a thing

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
Wopuldn't it be even cooler to introduce some German words into the English language? So let's give them "Hinrunde" and "Rückrunde", especially as the latter even comes with an umlaut

It's also why Götze and Müller are rated tbh. Now you see the light

well you always want what you don't have. That's why we are at the moment intending to assemble the squad with the most 'ø's in the players' names
