No it's been a pretty huge theory. I have been a 100% of this since D23, when JJ and Kasdan basically confirmed this in how they answered a fan question about him when they acted like they didn't know the character. Also Daisy Ridley was asked the and she started to act weird.

One of the issues with the prequel trilogy was the horrendous pacing.
