Re: The 2015 Summer Transfer Rumour Thread
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jul/26/chelsea-26m-everton-john-stones-bidChelsea will make a £26m bid for John Stones within the next 48 hours. José Mourinho remains desperate to sign the Everton defender and has not been put off by Roberto Martínez’s anger over the battle for his signature.
looks like we still want Stones.

Re: The 2015 Summer Transfer Rumour Thread
Think we'll get him in the end. Fatass Kenwright just trying to line his pockets as much as possible on this one (as with every sale he makes). Which it's his prerogative to do, of course - but he'd not be doing things like calling Stones the 'best centre-half in England' if he weren't trying to bilk as much money out of interested parties as possible.

I feel we'll get him, too.
Reports say that he'd be interested in a move, and we've got lots of money to spend so I can't see it not happening.

Baba Rahmann didn't appear at Augsburg's media day or team photo.
There isn't an obvious for him to miss it. Transfer impending?

Our 25m pound bid for Stones has been rejected, in the least surprising news of the year....

Indeed, we're only going to sign Baba Rahman and a CB.

By the way, Salah is training with Roma, deal is almost done.
Meanwhile, Augsburg have bought a new LB and Baba's agent said the only thing left is an agreement between Augsburg and Chelsea.
And Solanke has been loaned to Vitesse. Best of luck to him there, it's a risky move.

I'm not so sure, if he hits the ground running, he could do well. The Eredivise isn't the best league, and if Bertrand Traore can look like a decent CF there, then surely Solanke can, too.

Re: The 2015 Summer Transfer Rumour Thread
Also, anyone else think Winston Reid would be a decent alternative to our CB depth issue?
He has leadership experience, just turned 27, already lives in London, and would cost somewhere around 15m + has 5 years or so of Premier League Experience.
For a fourth choice CB, we could do a lot worse.

Re: The 2015 Summer Transfer Rumour Thread
Chelsea's situation is a peculiar one. You're the champions, so in theory you've already got the best team and it's always the most difficult to improve when you're already at the top.
On the other hand it's questionable whether either Falcao or Remy are good enough to start a lot of games for you and Costa seems to be a constant hamstring risk. Yet it would be overkill to get a fourth good striker.
Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Fabregas and Matic are a title-winning midfield five, so, not easy to buy an upgrade, but bench options Ramires, Cuadrado, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek (and Moses) might be a big step down.
In defense a GK and a LB left from the bench and another bench GK has arrived and your new LB will probably sit on the bench, too. Not much change there. Iva, Cahill and Terry will start as many games as possible again.
Not easy to buy upgrades - especially since Jose rotates so little - yet all your rivals have most likely moved closer to you

Re: The 2015 Summer Transfer Rumour Thread
We didn't need an upgrade in any position bar RW. We need depth in every position, the game between our starting XI and our bench is crazy.
An ideal summer would have been:
In:
Begovic, Falcao/another CF, Baba Rahman, CB, Passing CM, and a RW.
Out: Cech, Drogba, Ramires, Luis, Moses/Cuadrado
A CB like Stones/NKoulou/Howedes/Reid,
A CM who can pass, someone like Illarramendi, Gundogan, Koke, or Pjanic.
RW shouuld be someone like Reus, Robben, or another World Class winger.
That said, we can probably make do without a winger, but I think a CM is a must, if we want to keep ahead of the rest of the teams.

Re: The 2015 Summer Transfer Rumour Thread
WHy do you need such a good CB, isn't Zouma good enough? It would be a little stupid of a good CB (like Reid, whom I rate) to join you now, because Mourinho rotates little and usually tinkers with the back line the least. Iva, Cahill, Terry, Aspi will start probably every PL game when fit or not in need of rest. Unless there's a good CB out there who wants to do a Begovic, he shouldn't join Chelsea this summer yet, but the next.
But unless he proves everyone wrong, getting Falcao was the stupidest thing. He took up the spot that should have been reserved for a reliable striker.
I don't think a top CM like Pjanic wants to risk becoming a bench players for Chelsea, because Fabregas and Oscar are tough competition. Surely there are CMs who are better than Ramires and Mikel, but not as good as Pjanic, who could join Chelsea and not mind even if they're on the bench.
Yeah, since Cuadrado looks like a flop, you need that RW. Who knows, maybe you'll get Reus, he'd be perfect. But everyone below that world-class status must be thinking "okay, so Schurrle didn't make, Salah didn't make it, Cuadrado didn't make it, is it really smart of me to go there and suffer their fate?"

The problem is that we have 3 CB's and Ivanovic. But we'd rather keep Bran at RB so Dave can stay at LB. Zouma is certainly a trusted third choice, but another option there would sure up our defence and mean one injury to our CB's won't put us in a crisis. That is why Stones for 30m is silly, I'd rather a reliable player (like Begovic) who has experience and is happy to be a bit-part player.

Falcao is fine, as long as he scores a few goals. We had Drogba last season and as long as Falcao can pass and score, he's an improvement.

Jose would often rotate CM's so a new CM would get plenty of playing time. That would give us 3 top CM's to choose from.

Yeah, but a motivated player would want to join just to break the trend and prove how good they are.

Salah has been loaned to Roma (confirmed) for a reported 5m Euro loan fee + 15m Euro option to buy. That's about 3m pounds more than what we bought him for.
Best of luck to him in Rome!

Marca are reporting that earlier this year, Atletico turned down a 65m Euro bid from us for Koke.

Can I cling to this in the hope we're still looking for a CM?
Also, a close friend of Baba Rahman has said Baba wants to join us and the deal is close.
