Re: UK 2015 Elections
Yea it's baffling. Both Labour and Conservatives think that they are going to win a majority, which makes no sense because there is more chance of Plaid Cymru winning the election than either of the big two having a majority.
SNP will form a coalition happily with Labour.
Lib Dems will rather have a coalition with Labour as well
But Ed Milliband is adamant on not even discussing the possibility. Same with Cameron.
I think Ed wants to make himself look strong. He knows SNP will put in demands which he will never agree with. And wants to make it look like SNP are not important to him at all. Which is fair I guess, but he is just going to lose votes in Scotland with this way.
Cameron on the other hand knows no one wants to form a coalition with him because of how he treated lib dems. It will just come down to who can kneel the best infront of tories if they get the most amount of seats and are looking for a puppet party to form coalition with.
I do wonder if there is a slight possibility of a Labour-Conservative grand coalition at this point. It will be ground breaking but something which isn't as crazy as it sounds. Current labour are far from leftists as much as they like to claim( hence many people's worry that SNP will make the SNP-Labour coalition extremely close to far left). A grand coalition might just work if both parties are willing.
But at this moment in time. I can predict Labour winning the most seats and forming a coalition with someone. They will have to come around SNP eventually. Problem with Lib Dems is that they might not even get more votes than Greens or UKIP. They are completely irrelevant. So therefore Ed might have to make the deputy prime minister an actual responsible figure rather than a puppet.

Sturgeon is nowhere near any sort of power, yet she's already making threats and holding everyone for ransom What a delusional madam.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
I made a thread in this forum about the BBC, referencing a book authored by a BBC journalist. In summary of it, anyone that think the BBC is impartial can go in the same bin as anyone that thinks Fox News, The Guardian et al are impartial.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
No media outlet is impartial. Just see the coverage for Israel-Palestine conflicts on BBC and compare it with other outlets. They only show what the higher ups want them to show. Same with every other paper/news channel etc.
BBC hates on UKIP while always seems to favour conservatives. Guardian favours Labour and hates on conservatives. Sky news seems to be the least biased tbh.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
Atleast press-wise, things are better in the UK than in North America. The US is basically a land mine if you're looking for impartial analysis. Fox and it's groupies are so ridiculous most people don't even take them seriously. But it's the papers that lean liberal that are far more dangerous. They're insidious enough to appear intellectual and evidence-based yet have some of the most polarizing opinions around. This is because their understanding of the limitations of statistics and study methodologies is not strong enough to accurately inform their readership of the facts.
However, their facade of rigorous analysis and knowledge (not to mention the common liberal theme of moral superiority) is very convincing, especially to readers in my demographic (early 20s, urban student). The new-age digital newspapers are prime examples - Slate, Daily Beast etc.
In Canada, it's definitely better - the Globe and Mail and National Post stick to reporting news and limit the number of op-eds (or atleast have op-eds that are more centrist).
Also, if anyone's got the time, could you explain why the Liberal Democrats in the UK are so roundly dismissed? Is it the current leadership that's weak or do people genuinely not agree with their policy stances? I have limited context into the history of British politics, but having read up on the Lib Dems and 'Orange Bookers' in particular, I fail to see why they are not a stronger presence.
My views generally co-incide very well with those expressed by the Economist, and if I were a British citizen, I'd probably give Cameron a second term. Obviously, being an outsider, I don't have a particularly informed opinion, but I'd like to see him again, if atleast for the bantz. Genuinely wonder if he has a comedian write his lines at PMQ's or whether he's just that spontaneous.

Basically Lib Dems made a lot of promises which got them huge amount of votes, nearly as many as Labour which was an incredible thing at that time. But then Nick Clegg broke all the promises when he joined coalition and became a puppet for Cameron. His most infamous promise was to remove the tuition fees, however when he became the deputy head, the government tripled the tuition fee instead
Most of the youth back in 2010 thought Nick Clegg could be an Obama type character for us and trusted him with the votes. He basically betrayed everyone. Now his party is irrelevant and would be a huge surprise if they are even in top 5 most votes.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
Difference is, you can choose whether to buy a particular paper or not. Being forced to pay to listen to Evan Davies not allow Nigel Farage a word in edgeways is a pile of kakRealGunner wrote:No media outlet is impartial. Spend 1 hour eating and getting ready
That leaves you with a comfortable 3 hours in which you can spend time not voting.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
Every betting site have Conservative to marginally win.
but IMO the election result isn't as interesting as the post-election drama would be. Everyone knows it's between Labour n Tories. But who they make coalition with is far more interesting.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
I go this lads.
So exit polls suggest that Tories are ahead. Most labour seats in Scotland went to SNP
Tories most likely going to win it now. But we'll see.
