If a 20 year old uni student beat the shadow *bleep* foreign secretary than labour have no hope
That's what happens when you stand side by side and celebrate a referendum win with the Tories.
The North remembers.
It's better for UK to be together than be separated imo.
I don't actually have a problem with staying in the UK, it isn't actually that bad for us since thanks to the Barnett formula, we get given way more money than we actually need , but the sight of Labour members celebrating their win with the *bleep* Tories was a betrayal in the eyes of many, including many of those who had voted to remain as part of the Union.
You'll find that there's many people who want to stay as part of the UK but are voting for SNP this election, my family among them. The SNP have proven themselves competent leaders of Scotland and they deserve to win all these seats.

Labour source on Scottish results: "Next government will have huge task uniting country". Close to conceding defeat.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
Not surprising at this point, Jim Murphy, Scottish Labour leader lost his seat as well.

The "Cannabis is safer than alcohol" party in Inverclyde got more votes than the Lib Dems did in Castle Point.

True, he can't stop the SNP hype train though, and his cockiness prior probably did him no favours

Re: UK 2015 Elections
What a stunning, remarkable election... Wow.
Leaving the UK was a step too far for the Scottish people, but it sure got nationalism surging. And Labour failing anyway. An astonishing results for the SNP.
Lib dems LOL! Their former leader, Ashdown, promised to eat his hat if the exit poll was right and they got only 10 seats. Now it's looking they won't get even that LOL.
Should the electoral system be renewed?
SNP are set to get about 56 seats from 1.5 million people voting for them; UKIP seem to get one or two from 3.5 million people voting for them.
gg Labour.
A stunning victory for the Tories and I'll take my hat off to Cameron, no one saw this coming.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
The more I look at it, the more outdated the electoral system seems to me.
UKIP get 12.5% of the votes, but either 0.15% or 0.3% of the seats (depending on what happens in South Thanet).
SDLP get 0.3% of the votes, but 0.5% of the seats.
7% difference between Conservatives and Labour in votes, 14% difference in seats.
I don't think the seats should go according to such a system, the world has moved on from heavily regional-focused politics.

I think the system is good to keep out fad parties
There was a time BNP gained alot of support now they are not heard of anymore. The same will probably happen to UKIP

That's not a very democratic view, though. Regardless of what anyone thinks of UKIP, I think it's plain wrong that 12.5% of voters will have a 0.15% representation.

Aside from anything else, making that many people feel they are not represented is going to stir some shit up.

Re: UK 2015 Elections
The only good thing about this result is that Cameron has to come through on his promise for the devolution settlement for Scotland, which will pretty much insulate us from any of the really bad shit that the Tories push through down South.
Once the settlement is decided though, we'll probably just build a 20 feet wall across the length of the border, and in 5 years time we'll look over it to see what's left of England.
To all English based GL members

Re: UK 2015 Elections
Kinda feel for Miliband, trying to swim the electoral sea with Nicola Sturgeon and Russell Bland tied around his neck, like some vast, unforgiving boulders of resentment and hatred. That Brand interview was the Coup de grâce for Labour

Re: UK 2015 Elections
Astonishing. Absolutely astonishing.
This might be one of the most remarkable election of all time in England.
Farage gone
Clegg gone
Vince Cable gone
Milliband gone
One election resulted in such an overhaul.
I don't understand what happened. Every tory supporter I talked to is baffled how badly labour did. No one expected a majority. It literally came outta nowhere.
Milliband genuinely cared about the better of people. Feel sorry for him but he did the right thing to step down. I hope Labour can find the next Blair. They need to regroup.
Lib Dem got EVERYTHING they deserved.
Hopefully with Farage stepping down, UKIP can remove the poison from their party and actually promote what they believe in sensibly.
5 more years of Cameron is going to be difficult for the poor. Hope he stays strong with his promises.
