They did what they supposed to, win the game and they did so with a good looking score line but I dont see anything special with this team yet.
Questionable pen, questionable red, set peice goal and then obviously with just 10 men and already playing uninspired, crap football Portugal simply fell apart in all areas.
Unfortunately, all jokes aside, I actually agree with this. Höwedes and Boateng as fullbacks, Özil on the wing, Khedira in the starting lineup and the false 9 system will all prove to be a problem against opponents playing at a higher level.

Portugal got the same problem since losing Deco, they play 90% of the game on the wings. The only time the ball is in the middle is inside their own half or one of the useless crosses from the wings.
Moutinho just sorely underused, his role just reduced to passing it out wide, time and time again because he has nothing in front of him.
I pretty much agree with that. Portugal were unbelievably poor. In spite of what people including even you were predicting I still thought that this team would step up in a major tournament. Now they seriously risk qualification for the next round. If they go out in the group stage I think one would struggle to find a top name player in the history of football having flopped as much at world cups as Cristiano Ronaldo has done. In the next two games injuries or not he needs to find a way to take this very uninspiring team to the next round at least.
The problem you mentioned about Portugal is very well put and indeed Deco used to be crucial. However I quite like Moutinho in Euro 2012. This time the team and the tactics look that much worse for reasons I don't completely understand since it's largely the same team on paper.
Germany's formation has changed the way I see it. From the tried and tested 4-2-3-1 it's now more of a 4-3-3. Low's refusal to take and use a central striker, the unfortunate absence of Reus and the presence of all of Schweinsteiger, Kroos and Ozil as big name players has probably led to this change. So is this new style going to work? It's hard to say at this point. Ozil not being in the center is likely to limit his effectiveness. They will likely not score as freely as they did in WC 2010 against quality opponents. The one trump card for me in this team is Thomas Muller. He is that one player who reminds me of the mental strength, spirit and winning mentality of the great German teams of the past. How far Germany go in this world cup could depend on him. As an aside if Pep wants to bench him Bayern could do well to cash in on him because many big teams could do with him and would be ready to pay big bucks for that. After leading so comfortably Low really should have brought on Klose so as to give him a better chance at the record. It would be easier to comment on this Germany after some more matches and tougher tests. I said something very similar about France as well.

Suggestion from USA camp is only a strain for Altidore. Great news if true.

Still unlikely to play any further part in the World Cup and unable to be replaced in the squad.

Bradley has been uncharacteristically wasteful and peripheral in this match.

Fantastic game really. USA showed what they didn't in the last tournament. They have a legit chance to go to R16 if they defend like this.
Great call by Klinsmann to get Brooks on for DMB.

Ghana pretty disappointing; not a very good game overall. None of these two will see the round of last 16.

Brooks replaced Besler due to injury, not DeMarcus Beasley.

Portugal will be wanting that win tho. Don't think they'll be as wasteful as well.
That's 3 points tho. No controversy either.
