Re: Arsenal Lobby
Yeah, Lahm was a surprise to me as well. I'm sure Jogi will find new pieces to fit the puzzle. Or he'll boldly rejig the whole thing on the basis of what he has to choose from. Anyway, let's discuss this elsewhere - not in the Arsenal Lobby.
OT: I am waiting Saturday so eagerly! It's such a pain without regular footbal FFS!
Who/when will the preview be online?

As I told Sri and Anjl, the funniest part is that he could have been talking about Liverpool when addressing our CBs and GKs and people would probably think he was making bright observations lol.

The amount of people that underrated Koscielny and Mertesacker is astonishing.

Arsene on a Director of Football model - and says he couldn't work with one.

Wenger says he wants to keep Joel Campbell. Again.
Not that it'll stop the doubt surrounding his future with us, of course.

There is never a correlation between what AW says and what he does during the silly season. Can't bank on what he tells the media in the press conferences.

But ofcourse!
(It took me a while to forgive George Martin for deviating from the books in the series. I finished all the books when the first season came out and then the series changed plot points ffs!!)

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Pleased Mertesacker has retired from international football. More time to focus on Arsenal, of course, and less possibilities of an injury, I guess (and hope). Still just 29 too, and it's not like he relies on pace! So he should be around for years.
Re: Arsenal Lobby
The new Arsenal captain has underlined his commitment to bringing through some of the club’s most talented young players after taking over the armband.
That starts with Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is back to full fitness after injuries set him back last season.
“We have some fantastic young players at the club and I feel a responsibility as captain to help them develop,” Arteta told the official matchday programme. “One of the things that I like doing on the pitch is helping people around me to get better, to improve them.
“I've seen the strides forward that Aaron has made - it has been unbelievable and I'm very happy for him because he's developed into one of the best midfielders in Europe. You can also see it with Kieran Gibbs and with many other players, like Chambo.
“I see so much potential in him - he's been a bit unlucky with injuries but he's like my little project. He needs to get that continuity, because if he gets that, he's got everything to become a top player. He needs to believe in what he's got and I really think we will see a big season from him.
“When you consider that we have him, plus the likes of Yaya Sanogo, Joel Campbell and Theo - who has become a top goalscorer and was missed in the last few months - you can see how much young attacking talent we have got here and they’re only going to get better. That is amazing to be part of.”

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Arteta is mature and professional. He's a classy gentleman and has a good head on him. You don't see him dragged into controversies and spats. But on the pitch, you see him lead.
Every captain has his own style of dealing with things.
Henry had both, but somehow, it wasn't the same as having a captain like Viera.
This class was missing with Gallas. This maturity was missing with Fabregas. While Persie had both, his selfishness and slander of the club prior to his sale completely tarnished his image. He could have been a legend if he hadn't been such a tool.
While Vermalen had the maturity and the class, he wasn't a regular after a point. Technically, he wasn't the leader on the pitch any more.
What I like about Arteta, then? He thinks like a manager. You see all those captains I mention above, and none of them seem to be made of a managerial cloth (except Viera, but we know he took another path as Director of Football). With Arteta, I can see him as a really world class manager in the future. And that maturity, class and stable head will all stand him in good stead.
Slightly abstract in my reasoning, but this is how I view Arteta personally as a leader. And I like what I am seeing.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
I've said it many times. Arteta is the best leader we have had since Gilberto. Look at the way he talks about Arsenal and the players. Every new signing goes straight to him for help in settling down etc.
That's why he was made the captain.
