Isn't it the other way around when making a career move like that?
It's admirable and rare in the modern game. Fair play to him.

I'm sure he'd be a very popular person in Japan and would already be making good money from a lot of endorsements so in such situations money would become secondary i guess especially when wanting to make a move to a big recognizable club in world football.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk.IX
they probably told him come in January for free or take a paycut and we'll get you in now
Either way as a fan of his who rarely ever watches the Russian league..this is just another reason to be excited for the upcoming Serie A season. I may even watch the occasional game that clashes with the GOAT league.

If Arsenal want an "amicable" deal they're about a week and a bid late. Any chance of such a deal developing went out the window with that £40m + 1 bid.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk.IX
Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi has confirmed the club have made an offer for Atletico Mineiro playmaker Ronaldinho.
The former Barcelona forward, who has less than six months remaining on his current deal, has enjoyed a new lease of life in recent months, prompting speculation a return to Europe could be possible for the 33-year-old.
And the Turkish side's president has revealed he has taken the first step towards making such a move happen.
Cebi told reporters: "We have submitted a bid to Atletico Mineiro and now we are waiting for an answer."
On Thursday, Besiktas coach Slaven Bilic expressed his ambition to lure the former Selecao international to the club.
Ronaldinho, who joined Cuca's men from Flamengo last summer, played a major role in the Brazilian outfit's first ever Copa Libertadores title win last month.

Yeah... i thought that was very disingenuous by Wenger. He lies a lot nowadays. I'm starting to get annoyed by him tbh.RedOranje wrote:If Arsenal want an "amicable" deal they're about a week and a bid late. Any chance of such a deal developing went out the window with that £40m + 1 bid.

Looking at it from that way, you're right. And kudos to Honda if he accepts that.
I look at it as, in today's modern game with a club such a Milan, it'd be a bit embarrassing to sign a top rated player and actually offer him less than what he's making currently.
Are Milan that cash strapped atm?

It'd be nice to see Ronaldinho back in Europe, the little buck-toothed wizard.

I think there's have a sizable debt they have to service, plus Galliani is a master when it comes to shrewd deals.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk.IX
Its not that we're cash strapped (We're cash strapped btw), but the fact that CSKA are demanding quite a lot for a player that is going to be free in January. We're also balancing our budget for 1-2 more signings apparently (speculation)

Yeah, 5 million for someone with 4 months left on his contract is ridiculous.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk.IX
Looking at it from that standpoint seems ridiculous. However, if Honda can help Milan pick up plenty of points in the first half of the season, the 5M will have been a small price to pay compared to possibly missing out on CL revenue next season.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk.IX
Would him being free in January, shouldn't that affect his transfer fee?
I guess I can see CSKA trying to milk a bit more than they should given the circumstance. Regardless, Milan will be a good move for Honda. (He must also see this consider a drop in wages)
The fact his wages would drop just surprised me.

Newell's Old Boys defender Santiago Vergini, who was linked to Barca, apparently joins Estudiantes.

Honda apparently loves Milan and it has been his dream to join us, also his idol is Savicevic so a wage reduction to join his dream club sounds plausible

Do you reckon the deal is completely off?

That's what the quote sounded like to me... Sounds like Wenger's covering his bases for when they decide Suarez isn't worth Liverpool's valuation.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours Mk.IX
Nah. If Arsenal feel like coming in with a Bale-sized bid then Liverpool will probably still let things play out... though it certainly won't be "amicable" regardless. But to quote an article I've already shared at least once:RealGunner wrote:RedOranje wrote:If Arsenal want an "amicable" deal they're about a week and a bid late. Chris Bascombe - The Telegraph wrote:
Liverpool themselves could request the Premier League to ask Arsenal on what basis they bid £40,000,001. It is contrary to League regulations for a rival club to be given access to confidential contract details of an opposing player. There are no Liverpool plans at this stage to pursue a complaint against the Londoners, although at the highest level of the Merseyside club there is a feeling bidding an additional pound was "rubbing Liverpool’s noses in it".
It has ensured no further approaches by Arsenal are welcome at Anfield.

Liverpool are no longer interested in hearing from Arsenal period, even bids in the previously quoted £50-55m range will likely not be received positively at this point. Arsenal's little (failed) attempt at the footballing equivalent of insider trading has backfired. Arsenal's chances of striking a deal have only dropped, and any chance of an "amicable" deal are completely out the window.
