Yohan Modric wrote:Is there a proper way to analyse Bale?
Bale scored 21 goals last season in the EPL, Suarez and RvP scored more.
In La Liga Negredo, Falcao, Soldado, Messi and Ronaldo scored more than Bale.
So I'm not sure why we want to pay €100m for Bale.
However the argument here could be he's younger, supposedly a good dribbler, good at long shots and quick. But I don't think that makes him worth €100m.
La Liga is a joke and its easier to score in Spain.

Talents that make Bale special: 1) He is only 24 and not even in his prime yet; 2) he has an endless gas tank so it saves your team a tactical sub; 3) Unlike the players listed above, Bale is an attacking midfielder who works as hard defensively as he does offensively; 4) he isn't a finished product and can still improve his game in terms of ability and technique ; and, 5) the x-factor, he can win games on his own without good service.

McAgger wrote:Is there a stat showing how many long range shots Bale takes and his conversion rate?
I'd be interested in this, he seems to take a huge amount of shots but people only watch/remember the goals, not the large amounts of wasted shots leading up to it.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Signing bale will signal the barca dominance for the next couple of seasons. For the first time in a while the controversy has been on their side. I feel like for once our camp has been quiet but all these bale rumors are ruining our summer. With our squad as it stands we will beat barca and win la liga lets hope he does not come.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
- Opta stats via TalksportGareth Bale scored nine goals from distance in the 2012/13 Premier League, but only ranks joint sixth in terms of accuracy. The Spurs man had 77 shots from outside of the area this season, converting 12%, equal to the likes of Robert Snodgrass (three goals), Shaun Maloney (three goals) and Frank Lampard (three goals).
In case you hold conversion rate in high regard for some reason, consider this;
Once again, it's a case of whatever Spurs can do, Arsenal can do just that little bit better, and waltzing in at number one is the Gunners' German international Lukas Podolski. Despite scoring five less goals than Bale from outside the box, Podolski took only 12 shots from distance this season, scoring a whopping 33% of them

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Tbh i'm more with Gil here
Let's not laugh at Bale because he takes long shots ffs
I'm sure his long shot conversion rate is low, but what regular long shot taker doesn't have a low conversion rate? And I mean regular.
He is a very good player, he is not worth 100M obviously but there's no denying his abilities.

Stats don't belong in football besides how many of Bales long rangers were game winners, in big games or the last 5-10 minutes.
He's one of the most decisive players I've ever seen.

Pretty much all Bale's long shots were game winners and a majority came in closing minutes of games.
The hate for him is bordering on the ridiculous.

For what 2 games? He didn't remotely get an extended run in the position but Wenger gave Giroud and even Walcott real chances at locking down the position.
Anyways, back on topic.

Poldi lacked fitness for most of the season. Only a fool would start a player carrying a knock upfront in the latter half of the season, especially when every game was a must win

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
So basically Bale's an average dribbler, but quick, good at long shots and his main strength is scoring goals in the last 10 minutes?
I think his 'last minute goalscoring' ability is something that has to be proven for another season.
So without taking into account his 'last minute goalscoring' ability, how much is he actually worth?
Not discrediting his 'last minute goalscoring' ability though. It's just one of those things that has to be proven.
