I have to also say, Julio Caesar has been more than impressive and that clearance by David Luiz is GOAT

Arquitescu wrote:Some very harsh criticism here.
Why in the world was Aquilani being criticized when he was one of our best midfielders on the pitch? When he came on, our team opened up, his passes were in the right places & his defence was good bar one foul.
How is SES not ready for Italia? What about his France performance were he was our best player? Malta? His excellent brief appearances v Haiti & v Brazil where he created 2 chances?
Why criticism of today? Italia played a counter-attacking formation to which did not suit him, provide him touches and kept him channelled out of position. When he was on the ball he bypassed Cacares, Rios & Godin within 20 minutes and created TWO deft chance to which was spoiled by Gilardino.
Even slotted his penalty with calm ease.
Keep in mind he has just recovered from injury and had his first start for Italia in a long while so his inertia developed is rather difficult to get out of. He is ready for Italia as guys like him, Candreva etc make us play better.
I refuse to discuss this match that actually was just a mirage in my mind.
So someone discuss my point above.

Aquilani's trash. Loses the ball too much, even lost the ball forcing Montolivo to take one for the team by cutting back when there was absolutely no need.
Can't stand him as a player.

Re: The Official Confederations Cup thread Pt.2
Spain had played 30 minutes more in their semi-final match and had a day less than Brazil to rest. Brazil were more inspired, kicking off at home turf in their legendary stadium with 70 thousand people behind them. This already gives the home team a big advantage.
But let this not fool us. Brazil were simply a better team than Spain, even taking the above circumstances away.
The main problem is tactics. From the moment I saw the starting line-up, I came to the conclusion that it won't be an easy night for Spain. Del Bosque's over-reliance on fielding the same team has been an issue. But he is not the first coach to do so. Why change something that works, eh? Well, a team that relies on possession football needs to attack the ball from the front end. Starting a lazy and completely uninspired Torres whom, I genuinely believe, contributed pretty much nothing during the whole tournament, not far off his disastrous club form, was tactical suicide. Arbeloa, who's deemed to be replaced at his club by a 20 year old who plays third fiddle in U-21 NT speaks for itself really, and how mediocre he has been in the past 2-3 years has really become common knowledge. I don't understand the coach. These are significant weak links that prevent you from champion status.
Spain must take lessons from this match. As they have been scraping wins on a consistent level, their flaws had never been exposed, hence it has been easy for the technical team to put a blind eye to them. Tonight however, Brazil exposed those flaws and blew them out of the water. Other than personnel changes (as described above), the midfield needs to be changed. Tiki-taka has forgotten the physical side of the game. You look at Paulinho, a dirty player to be completely fair, but a player who hustled the small Spanish players the whole 90 minutes, reminiscent of Javi Martínez's display against Barcelona earlier in Champions League. Spain need someone like him and funnily enough, as I mentioned, they got a beast who does exactly that! Busquets, while for a couple of seasons was an absolutely unplayable DM, doesn't seem to be the player he once was. Especially when driving the team forward, Busquets and Xavi combination doesn't work any more and I've been highly critical of it.
Last but not least, great tournament for Brazil and you cannot say it wasn't fully deserved. They were a complete team, much like Bayern, except they are still work in progress. I'm quite sure for Brazilians, 2014 can't come any sooner though.

Haters? We did not even bypass the midfield let alone create a chance. Only Marcelo was tested (who failed) as tonight is little measure of Luiz' ability.
That honour would go to the likes of Gustavo & crew.

As I said earlier i am VERY disappointed with the Spanish fans,So many racist insults, so much discrimation toward our golden shirt, already calling this the Marcanazo de la roja, not to mention the absolute disgraceful journalists on the Italy vs Spain match.I am so happy right now.
Also, i have been wanting to say this for a while. screw you harmonica

Oh yes, of course. Not tested at all. Didn't have to make a goal line clearance at all. Didn't constantly stop Spain when they troubled the defence. Not at all.

The sarcasm Ok
You mean the goal line clearance made out of his positioning in not covering Torres? I agree. We'll continue to praise the more "action" manoeuvres instead of pre-empting to observe how Luiz had a Luiz brain-collapse in not understanding his zone.
Troubled the defence? We didn't trouble the defence outside one Villa moment & a Torres pass. One was saved by Silva, the other one by Luiz; who redeemed himself from his original lapse.

Ah yes, the old 2 v 1 situation where the defender is out of place. Shame that Luiz couldn't clone himself in that very moment so he could cover both Torres and Mata, I think it was. What poor positioning.
Luiz anticipated everything which is why you didn't trouble the defence.

Considering we didn't even bypass the midfield. Here is a classic case of interpretation entanglement in which a conceived individual wins praise over the original conceived who brought mere hindrance.....to which in accordance our play.
2 on 1? Yes. He was supposed to be covering Torres i.e the zonal threat within his zone. He chose to meddle within a middle territory to which caused him to anticipate the clearance. Remarkable athleticism, yet we aren't forgetting Defence 101 are we?
Star of the backline Thiago Silva for the tournament. Last game Luiz was busy being reamed by Cavani, Suarez, Forlan and giving away nonsensical penalties.
Doesn't mean he was bad today.
