Re: The Movie House - Part 3
He gave it 8.7 out of 10 which is fair. Heat is probably the greatest action film of all time.

Hmm, maybe just cause I saw it recently and it's still fresh in my head. And no I don't think it is the greatest film ever made. The greatest film that I've ever seen imo is The Shawshank Redemption.McAgger wrote:Don't get me wrong, I loved Heat but the way your describing there as if it's the greatest film ever made, which it doesn't even come close to being.

Movies are subjective, there is no need to attempt and discredit his opinion.

You have good taste. IMO, Heat is the best crime movie of all time, and an argument could be made that it's a top 10 movie in any genre. Shawshank Redemption is GOAT though.

My personal favourite of all time is Fight Club. Of course it will vary for person to person.
McAgger what do you think is the greatest action film of all time?

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Depends what other movies you would list as crime movies.
For example I liked all these movies more than Heat (and I would list them as crime movies while some might not, some might consider them dramas)
Training day
The Godfather
The Usual Suspects
The Departed
Leon: The Professional
No Country for Old Men
American History X
Heat is in my top 10 but it's definitely more towards the bottom of the top 10.

I don't count any of these as 'action' films. All of them are amazing films, great list.
Speaking of The Departed, you have to watch Internal Affairs if you liked it. The Departed is the English remake of that movie and like most remakes, the original is the better version.

We are not talking about action films though, we are talking about crime films. Heat was definitely a crime film that had lots of action, but it would definitely be listed as a crime film. And if I get some time I'll check Internal Affairs out.

And yes I have forgotten Fight Club, that's another one that I liked more than Heat. I just feel like the movie is being overrated is all. But to each is own, these lists are always subjective like already pointed out.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
I'm sure most of you know how movies are worked in the Middle East, for those who don't: They censor all kissing scenes/nude scene/basically any scene that had intimacy.
Today i went to watch Wolf of Wall Street. Now i was pretty excited, because i loved The Departed. So i was pretty hyped for the movie. What i read online about it, was that it was a long movie (I think i saw it was about 3 hours)
The movies started 9:00 pm, it finished 10:40.
I am not kidding, the censorship of the movie was so much. I didn't know that Jordan had a wife until he broke up with her. I couldn't make sense of the plot because it goes from one scene to a completely different scene.
It wasn't just the video that was cut, but also the audio. I shit ye not, they dubbed all the swear words. This is the first time that this sort of thing happens, people got up and left. This is the first time this type of censoring happens. Normally they keep the swear words, and just cut the sex and kissing scenes. But i don't know why this bs started. Hangover 3 was the first type of movie to get this sort of treatment, and now WoWS is the second. This is becoming more apparent and i wanna do something to stop it
Now i have to wait until it's released on Itunes ffs

I would not recommend you going on piratebay and torrenting it. I would say don't do it.

But that does suck big time.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Yeah that's pretty terrible. Movies are produced a certain way and to get the full entertainment value one must be able to watch it in its originality. There is a very distinct artistic aura in filmmaking so that aspect of it definitely gets ruined when the whole thing is censored that much.

I think what you guys should know about my ratings though is that it's not a rating of how good I think the movie was. At least not only that. My ratings are a blend of how good the movie is and how much I enjoyed it. Just don't want you guys to go crazy when I give Shawshank a rating of 9.2 and then give Inception a rating of 9.6. So. I consider Shawshank Redemption the greatest film I've ever seen but it doesn't necessarily mean it is my favourite of all time. That goes to Inception.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Seriously your ratings are kind of putting me off tbh
why have decimals on a scale of 1-10? aren't 10 enough to rate a movie.
Also how can anyone not give their favourite film a 10?
I can't even list a favourite film tbh, would have to say Godfather or Taxi Driver. But there's just so many.

ES
to be honest I'm not surprised they'd censor that much of the movie out now that you explained the censoring laws. I mean Dicaprio was snorting cocaine off of a naked hooker's asshole within the first ten minutes
I'm surprised they even released it out there. Can you get in trouble if they found out you downloaded the uncensored version?

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Heat deserves the hype it gets. There are few movies that can make unoriginal material like bank robberies truly interesting. 3 hrs long, but superb character development, action and suspense.
Also, I would never consider The Godfather to be comparable to Heat in terms of genre. Yes, it deals with the subject of crime, but how many films don't deal with crime?
Unlike Heat, The Godfather is really much more of a drama than an action film, the action scenes in The Godfather are sparse and punctuate the storyline rather than driving the storyline.
By the way, if we're talking about the best action movies, it seems almost clichéd to mention the original Die Hard, but it's another must-watch action movie that seems to miss out on these "best" movie lists because it's too popular.

Right, if we are talking about crime films, Heat is not the greatest of all time. I was talking about an 'action' film you know, like The Town, get it? I don't consider The Godfather and Heat belonging to the same genre.

but Heat is mainly a crime film way before it's an action film tbh. The Godfather is also a crime film. You really can't say they don' belong in the same genre.
And to tell you the truth Heat isn't even the best action movie there is either.
