Wow, just wow. Going to be an interesting award season because for once there is a glut of worthy candidates:
1. Wolf of Wallstreet
2. 12 years a Slave
3. American Hustle
4. Her
5. Rush
6. Dallas Buyers Club

Not surprisingly Jennifer Lawrence is amazing in this as she appears to be in everything she's a part of. It was really nice to see Bale in a role that will help move him beyond the legacy of Batman. Just a great movie, but crazy to believe this happened in real life.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Her on Christmas Eve.

HOLY SHIT

So watched Donnie Darko for the 3rd time tonight, and this time I actually read the explanation and a quick summary of Philosophy of Time Travel which the plot of the movie is very much based upon.

I never liked Donnio Darko before because I simply did not f*cking understand it. The movie is soooo intelligent and complex that literally no one would understand it first time without outside knowledge.

Well having outside knowledge changes the whole thing. Now the whole movie makes sense. It's a beautiful film and I have definitely changed my mind about it.

Just don't ever watch the Directors cut, it will ruin the movie for you, because either the editor was a true genius or the movie was a complete accident that worked.

iirc I said something similar to this in the chat! Very Happy

I'm glad to hear that McAgger, it really is underrated, even with the cult following it has. I don't expect most to go into the plot and explanation and all, which explains it, but if you do get into that stuff, it really changes the movie. I liked it on first watching personally, and that only enhanced my appreciation for the movie.

It's one of my favorites for sure.

Haha I forgot to mention it in that post but it was thanks to you in the chat that I rewatched it and read the explanation. It always bugged me that so many people thought this was such a good movie and I just couldn't comprehend it.

Saw Anchorman 2 the other day. I had smoked weed beforehand, so my opinion of the beginning might be skewed, but I remember laughing my ass off at the start. However, it got gradually worse as the movie wore on. Ron Burgundy's kid is the worst child actor there is Laughing

Not really sure of what rating to give it given my state of mind, but meh you might as well see it.

Erm.....he's probably referring the 1971 original classic starring Gene Wilder as Wonka.

That is vastly superior to the one Burton and Depp put out.

Post by RED Wed Dec 25, 2013 2:48 am

I just watched a few awful movies.

The Heat- 2/10. Didn't even finish it cuz it was so bad. You know a movie is awful when you start going through your phone while it's playing in the background.

The Hangover 3.- 4/10- Didn't even raise a smirk during the entirety of this so called comedy. Easily the worst in the series.

R.I.P.D- 2/10- Men in Black rip off. Incredibly dull film, poor character development, unoriginal and has some of the worst special effects I've seen in years. Crazy that this film cost 130'000'000 to make, yet has Youtube FreddyW quality CGI.

Word of advice guys, avoid these movies like the plague.

I can highly recommend "Tell No One" with Francois Cluzet for thriller fans.

"Ip Man" (or "Yip Man") 1 and 2 for martial arts fans.

"Evil Dead" for horror fans.

Can't believe today is the first time I've actually scrolled down further than the football section. I swear I thought the forum ends there.

Out of the Furnace
When I checked out the trailer, I thought this movie was going to be sublime and full of action and drama. But I have to say it had just disappointed me. For starters, the movie is too slow and casual and pedestrian. You watch it and it proceeds on a slow pace and you'd think there'll surely be a sudden thrill or burst of action coming anytime soon but it just never arrives. The acting is good, but not great and I couldn't connect with the story. About the story, I think it is too clichéd: "Two brothers made it through a hard life, they both love each other very much, one gets murdered, the other seeks vengeance." We have seen and heard this type of story before. But still it could've been aced if there were some twists, some intense scenes and better direction, but there wasn't. I personally just liked the suspense at the end and that has made me give the film a bit of a higher rating.
My rating: 6.8/10

Don Jon
Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut. Don Jon is a fun, quirky but also very true story that men can relate to. It's about Jon (JGL) who is called the "Don" because he knows his way with woman and always gets laid with another girl every other night. He meets Barbara (Scarlett Johanson) :proud:who is this beautiful fecking dime, 10/10, girl. Needless to say, I know. And he hits it of with her. Then things happen. Don't wanna say much, but life happens. It's a very cool, funny movie and I'd surely want you guys to watch it.
The only thing I hated about the movie was Scar Jo constantly chewing gum. Jeez, :/
My rating: 7.6/10

I think it's every guys must see movie of the year.

Scarlett Johansson is out of this world hot in this movie. There is one part where Levitt dry humps the shit out of her, better than any porn you could watch.
