I watched World War Z last night.

Great zombie movie. Very entertaining, and Brad Pitt was superb as usual.

8.5/10

First Trailer for Direct-to-DVD Sequel CURSE OF CHUCKY

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 Rbxlwy

The first trailer for the direct-to-DVD sequel Curse of Chucky has been released online.  Director Don Mancini - who has written every single Child’s Play film and directed 2004’s Seed of Chucky - takes the helm as Chucky wreaks havoc on an entirely new family.  The production value is actually quite good, and fans of the series will likely be pleased to host a return visit from Chucky in unrated form. The film features the voice of Brad Dourif and stars Fiona Dourif (The Master), A Martinez (Longmire), Danielle Bisutti (CSI: Miami), and Brennan Elliott (Double Jeopardy).  Curse of Chucky will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 8th.

Synopsis: He’s back! From the filmmakers that brought you Chucky comes the terrifying return of the pint-sized doll possessed by the spirit of a notorious serial killer. When a mysterious package arrives at the house of Nica (Fiona Dourif, True Blood), she doesn’t give it much thought. However, after her mother’s mysterious death, Nica begins to suspect that the talking, red-haired doll her visiting niece has been playing with may be the key to the ensuing bloodshed and chaos. The return of America’s favorite toy, voiced again by Brad Dourif, is unrated and full of more blood-splattered thrills and chills.

New Featurette for R.I.P.D. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 X2qu5y

Universal has released a new featurette for the action-comedy R.I.P.D. The film stars Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as two deceased lawmen who now work for the “Rest in Peace Department”, and are tasked with apprehending the souls of dead criminals that refuse to face final judgment.  The featurette has got some new footage, and keeps making the flick look like it could be a fun ride, especially with Bridges basically playing a cartoon cowboy. The film also stars Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon, Marisa Miller, and James Hong.  R.I.P.D. opens in 3D on July 19th.

Synopsis: Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headline the 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.  When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.

First Trailer for Western SWEETWATER Starring January Jones

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 2lbjscx

The first trailer for the western pic Sweetwater has landed online.  The western stars January Jones as a prostitute who hunts down a religious fanatic Prophet Josiah (Jason Isaacs) when he murders her husband (Eduardo Noriega) over a land dispute.  Ed Harris co-stars as a crafty sheriff who’s hunting down Josiah for different reasons.  The trailer tries to give off a Django Unchained vibe by highlighting the violence.

After premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, the western Sweetwater is still waiting for release here in the United States. But overseas, the film is getting released with the alternate title Sweet Vengeance. The film didn't receive much praise at the indie festival earlier this year, but maybe audiences will turn out for the indie western anyway. No domestic release date yet.

First Trailer for Indie Drama THE LIFEGUARD Starring Kristen Bell

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 Ogywcn

Focus World has released the trailer for the indie drama, The Lifeguard.  Kristen Bell stars as a woman who is unable to cope with her life in the big city, and decides to regress by coming back to her hometown and work her old job as a lifeguard.  The trailer tries to condense the message of the movie, which is that regression is a positive thing because it lets you find yourself.  The trailer also quickly buries one the major plot points, which is Bell’s character sleeping with a teenager (David Lambert) and calling that self-discovery. The film also stars Martin Starr, Mamie Gummer, Joshua Harto, and Amy Madigan.  The Lifeguard opens in limited release on August 30th.

Synopsis: Leigh (Kristen Bell) is almost 30, and living a seemingly perfect life in New York. But when her career and love life both come crashing down, she flees to her suburban hometown and regresses right back into teenage life and behavior. She moves into her old room with her parents, hangs around with friends who never left town, and reclaims her high school job as a condo-complex lifeguard. But as Leigh enjoys shirking adult life and responsibilities and enters into an illicit affair, she begins a chain reaction that affects those closest to her.

PACIFIC RIM Cancels the Apocalypse With One Last Trailer

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 Pacific-Rim-Rinko-0707-Dragonlord

In the run-up to the film’s imminent release, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have definitely upped the ante when it comes to promotional materials. Posters highlighting individual Jaegers and Kaiju, extensive featurettes, and even oddball viral videos have popped up in recent days. With a just a few days left until Pacific Rim’s stateside premiere, Legendary and director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) have shared the final trailer for the film. Featuring both expanded characterization and even more massive robot-on-monster battles, this preview does its best to sell Pacific Rim as both contemplative and action-saturated.

Warner Bros.’ current hype blitz for Pacific Rim betrays a certain nervousness about its wide box office appeal. It’s uncertain whether this trailer (or any of the materials recently released) will help bring in general audiences. Let's hope that the film can overcome its inherent riskiness and do better than current hand-wringing expectations. Pacific Rim opens on July 12.

Pacific Rim currently has a 79% score in Rotten Tomatoes from a total of 29 critics. Click HERE to read some of the early reviews.

THE WOLVERINE First Clip Featuring Extended Train Fight Scene

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 The-Wolverine-Train-Scene-Dragonlord

20th Century Fox has released the first clip from James Mangold's The Wolverine featuring an extended train fight scene. The clip proves that having three retractable, nine-inch blades of indestructible metal between your knuckles can have many a practical application beyond just slicing jugulars. Those six mega-knives can be used in a variety of inventive ways.  They can, for example, be used for stability in the event that you ever find yourself in a battle with a bunch of Japanese gangsters on the exterior of a bullet train barreling through metro Tokyo at 200 miles per hour. Starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee, The Wolverine hits theaters on July 26.

Synopsis: Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.

Guillermo del Toro Says HELLBOY 3 is Unlikely to Happen

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 Hellboy-Abe-Sapien-Dragonlord

Guillermo del Toro: "It’s very unlikely it’ll happen because you need things to converge so strongly.  [Producer] Larry Gordon, Universal, the rights, Ron [Perlman’s] and mine’s availability, [comic creator] Mike [Mingola’s] blessing; we have pieces of that, but we don’t have all of that.  You need so many things to confluence and then you need about $150 million."

"I talked to Mike about making it a comic and Mike said very clearly, ‘Hellboy the movies is yours, Hellboy the comics is mine; I don’t wanna confuse them.’  He has been very clear about not bringing any mythology we did in the movies into the comics, like Kroenen being a mechanical clockwork zombie Nazi, or The Samaritan, which is not called ‘The Samaritan’ in the comics, or Big Baby, or Abe Sapien being like the character he is in the movies, which is different.  In the comics he’s a hard-ass, Abe Sapien is really a tough guy, and in the movie he’s like this sensitive, mind reading fish man.  So [Mike] is very careful, no love story between Liz and Hellboy, so on and so forth."

"The way Hellboy 1 and Hellboy 2 are very different from each other, Hellboy 3 is different enough from the other two that it wouldn’t feel like the same universe in scale.  He does become the beast of the apocalypse.  But seeing the apocalypse is getting more and more—the bar is raised higher and higher every year; mass destruction is becoming the sport of the summer."

The Last Stand- Garbage film. Avoid this. One of Arnie's worse movies ever. 3/10

Evil Dead 2013- Ok remake. Too much blood and gore....I mean way OTT. Not a patch on the original though. 6/10.

First Trailer for SAVING MR. BANKS Starring Tom Hanks

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 2e375oy

The first trailer has been release for John Lee Hancock‘s Saving Mr. Banks.  The film focuses on Walt Disney’s (Tom Hanks) twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to author P.L. Travers’ (Emma Thompson) novel Mary Poppins and the rocky relationship that formed between the two.  In some ways, it’s pure Oscar-bait and easily digestible as well as a little on the sappy side, but it also looks quite charming.  Hanks and Thompson look like they have great chemistry.

The film also stars Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, Bradley Whitford, Annie Rose Buckley, Ruth Wilson, B.J. Novak, Rachel Griffiths, and Kathy Baker.  Saving Mr. Banks opens in limited release on December 13th before going wide December 20th.

First Teaser Trailer for HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

DreamWorks Animation has released the first teaser trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2. No plot is conveyed in this teaser trailer. Instead, it throws us back to the joy of the flying sequences in the first movie, and then ups the ante. We see a confident (and hot) Hiccup pulling daredevil stunts, and for a teaser trailer, it’s a perfect announcement that the sequel is on the way. The film also features the voices of Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, Kristen Wiig, Kit Harrington, and Gerard Butler. How to Train Your Dragon 2 opens in 3D on June 20, 2014.

Synopsis: The thrilling second chapter of the epic “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy brings back the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years later. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.

New Trailer for Wong Kar-Wai’s THE GRANDMASTER

A new full-length U.S. trailer for writer-director Wong Kar-Wai’s The Grandmaster is now available. Based on the real life of Ip Man – the Wing Chun master who trained Bruce Lee – The Grandmaster aims to tell the true story of the martial arts expert. The trailer shows off Wong’s particular cinematic style with a rain-soaked melee battle as its centerpiece. Though rooted in reality, The Grandmaster is clearly a stylized dramatic interpretation, despite what the overbearing voice-over in this trailer tells you. Starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhang Ziyi and Cung Le, The Grandmaster opens stateside on August 23rd.

Sam Mendes Confirmed to Direct JAMES BOND 24; Coming in 2015

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 Skyfall-Sam-Mendes-Daniel-Craig-Dragonlord

Press Release: Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. The film is set for release in UK theaters on October 23, 2015 and in US theaters on November 6, 2015 (currently the same date as Ant-Man and Peanuts).

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise.

Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, "Following the extraordinary success of 'Skyfall,' we're really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”

"I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct 'Bond 24.' I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes.

Fox to Announce X-FORCE Movie at San Diego Comic Con

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 X-Force-Liefeld

20th Century Fox, in appraising the superhero movie landscape, may be embracing the concept that if other studios are going to go one superhero per movie in order to build a team, Fox has the power to introduce entire teams right off the bat. The X-Men movies have continued to pile in more and more mutants, and now that it’s busting at the seems with Bryan Singer‘s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, the studio may be close to moving into the secondary teams. If so, the announcement may come at their Comic-Con panel next Saturday.

Bleeding Cool has been tracking down rumors that Fox plans to announce an expanded X-Men universe during the studio’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday, July 20th from 4:15 – 5:45pm. X-Men Days of Future Past will be there, and it would be a good launching point especially when you consider how many mutants are in the movie. If the universe does expand, it could lead off with X-Force, created by horrible artist/writer Rob Liefeld. X-MenFilms.com has learned that Fox registered x-forcemovie.com, although there’s currently nothing there at the moment.

X-Force creator Rob Liefeld says that an X-Force movie is in the planning stages, and he's known about it since March. X-Force creator Rob Liefeld says that an X-Force movie is in the planning stages, and he's known about it since March. Basically, don’t leap to take what Liefeld says at face value. Johnny Depp to Return in ALICE IN WONDERLAND Sequel

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 Ehhrt3

It’s no surprise that after the lackluster performance of Disney’s The Lone Ranger, star Johnny Depp is reported as being in final talks for a sequel to the studio’s highly lucrative Alice in Wonderland.  Depp starred as the Mad Hatter in the original picture which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide.  Director James Bobin (The Muppets) steps in for Tim Burton this time around.

Deadline also reports that the sequel is part of a relatively new multi-year deal between Depp and Disney that will allow him to produce movies at the studio.  Depp was in the news earlier this week when it was announced that he’d play the title role in Lionsgate’s Mortdecai.  He hopes to fit that particular film in between his roles in the Disney productions Into the Woods and Pirates of the Caribbean 5.

The Lone Ranger was never going to be good Laughing. They heavily marketed Depp as Tonto from the start, with Armie Hammer's Ranger as little more than an afterthought and empty name. This movie was doomed from the get-go. Pretty bad when the sidekick has more starpower, first name billing and more face time than the eponymous character.

Depp hasn't starred in a truly great movie in over a decade. The original Pirates could be considered the last, if I'm honest.

Sweeney Todd?

Anyway, Depp doesn't seem like someone craving critical appraisal or recognition. He probably selects based on money and fun. Even with that, it would be very difficult to criticize any one of his performances.

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 9 Mandela-Long-Walk-to-Freedom-Teaser-Dragonlord

The official U.K. teaser trailer for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom has arrived, and it showcases leading man Idris Elba's take on South African revolutionary and activist Nelson Mandela. The clip consists of a sparse score and contemplative voice-over from Elba's Mandela, accompanied by the visual of an airborne tracking shot following Elba while he walks through a field in South Africa.

The film, based on Mandela's 1994 autobiography "Long Walk to Freedom," will chronicle Mandela's life as he changed the world through his work as an anti-apartheid revolutionary and subsequently as president of South Africa. The biopic is directed by Justin Chadwick, who helmed the films The Other Boleyn Girl and The First Grader.
