Most Arsenal fans anticipated that Podolski would be played on the left when he arrived, not as a striker and that he wouldn't be a direct replacement for van Persie. He's played one game as a striker this whole season.

Most Arsenal fans anticipated that Podolski, playing on the left hand side, would add some more productivity from our flanks; that he'd score goals. 10 goals and 8 assists suggests he is certainly living up to to that expectation. (He scored 18 for Koln last year, 14 before that.)

Most Arsenal fans had also anticipated that Podolski would probably start off quite slowly, having to adapt to new surrounding, and that we wouldn't see the best of him. If you look at these stats...

Games to reach 10 goals for AFC:
Wright - 12
Eduardo - 19
Chamakh - 21
Kanu - 24
Podolski - 26
Bergkamp - 26
Henry - 28
Adebayor - 36
van Persie - 39

...and consider all those other guys played centrally, he's actually exceeded that particular expectation.

Then when you consider factors out of his control such as his position on the field, the way the team is playing etc. and it's really hard to see that he's a failing to meet expectations or "flopping". The only thing we expect to be better from Podolski is his general play. Other than that, he's provided goals, assists and a top-notch work rate.

I've counted 11 but it might be 10 assists, according to the more reliable WhoScored.

In any case, he still has the most assists in the league now. So yeah, flopping and all that.

To be fair, Gerrard is tied for second on assists in the League and he's been "horrid" this season.
