Nah. Valdes is a sweeper keeper.

We play with a high line, its his job to read things earlier than normal goalies and clear things because our defence line is that much higher than anyone elses.

Staying on the line wouldnt of done anything.

Either way, half way house is useless.

I dont think the goal is really Puyols fault either, he couldnt exactly clear the ball the position he was in by the time the ball came.

It was just a good play by Madrid.

However, one thing is bigger than all these.

Benz vs Adriano at the backpost.

Pique or Abidal would of been in instead of Adriano and that goal doesnt happen.

Puyol had more than enough time to clear that ball

Disagree Ganso..only if he did it first time which was difficult as it just fell to him.

And what I meant was, Benz jumped over Adriano at the back post.

Ideally, it would of been Puyol, Pique or Abidal if they were available. I dont think Benz would have done that to any of them.

He was fault for both of the goals imo.
1. When let the ball slipped through hes hands
2. Very wrong move from him to run straight forward to CR7, theoretically thats how gks react when theres 1v1 situatin, but considering that the striker was CR7, he is to blame for it imo. If he would have sit behind his goal, the defence would have ran back to the 18 metres box and would have made difficult for CR7 to give a shot. When CR7 received the final pass from Özil, it had a angle in it so it should have not been a problem for defence to block the shot I think.

Oh, It wasn't Benz.

Benz was behind the play on this corner, that was Pepe.

Pepe with his athletic ability would always have a shot.

The header? Thought that was Benz.

Either way, I fancy Pique, Puyol or Abidal still. Adriano had position, if those 3 get position they hardly ever get jumped over.

Pique definitely wasn't getting jumped over.

Dunno why he didn't play really....you guys lacked proper distribution from the back for a couple extended periods.

To be fair to Pep, Pique hasnt played in like 5 games...throwing him in would of been a risk too.

If he put Pique in and he made an error, many would have said, why change Mascherano and Puyol who have done quite well recently.

I would have played all 3 instead of Adriano to be honest, but its a tough decision.

Was Pique Injured?

I thought Busquets should've recognized the distribution problem and he shouldve tried to fall back into the 3rd cb role he sometimes adopts.

Everyone was a little too far up tonight, Iniesta was ahead of the play a couple times, Xavi pushed a bit far up, Messi should've came deeper more.

I think he packed the midfield a bit much.

He was injured a while ago, hasnt played since.

I agree about Busi, but at the same time he constantly got caught in possession by taking long on the ball.

He was horrible.

Valdes just had an off game. He needed to step up with 3-4-3 being played and well he was at fault for the two goals. Came off his line and didn't go for the ball (second goal), like me, reduces the angle but doesn't like getting the ball, the most iportant substance in that kind of play for a goalkeeper

Valdes (<3 _ <3)

¤ Valdes is very close to win the 5th Zamora in his career, equals Antoni Ramallets' all-time #laliga record (Barcelona, 1947-62).

Zamora Trophy goes to the goalkeeper who has the lowest "goals-to-games" ratio. It is named after legendary Spanish GK, Ricardo Zamora.

Well, if it is goals/games, then Valdès is better than Casillas. (Check the "Best Defenses" thread in the Right Back section; I'll update it tonight after the Manchester^2 match, btw.)

Fact of the matter is barcelona plays possession football, they average 70% possession a game, meaning Valdez only rarely has a work to do in his position, hes a spectator most of the matches and they also have far superior defence compared to RM. Yet we have only conceded 3 more goals than barcelona. Coincidence, or luck? Na, just Iker.

Well, after the last matches of this season, I will calculate the goal/game quotient for the best teams of the top leagues (as the BL has 2 matches less we need the quotient there), but as things look right now, Gigi Buffon wins that comparison with quite a margin.

Its the award for the best defense not really for the best GK.

Pinto played well today and well one can't help notice that he is better shot stopper than Valdes though his ball disturbing is pretty bad compared to Valdes!

Pinto a better shot-stopper than Valdés? I thought shot-stopping was Valdés's best attribute. He has improved his decision-making but he's never been a top goalie in that respect.

No more Valdes, this season.

This means, he will win the Zamora Trophy, even if Casillas kept 3 clean-sheets in the remaining 3 games..

How can that be possible Khaled?

hypothetically, can't a team use a GK for 10 games, keep a clean sheet for 10 and then bench im for the remaining season just to win it if that was the case?
