Best XI of all time
Altough the tittle of the thread doesnt promice, the idea is to put a team out of the best XI players, but only the players you have watched play, Example, dont put Maradona or Pelle in team if you just heard they were the best. Also, the choosen team must have ballance between defence and attack, and there has to be explanation behind every choosen player.
Let's see if anyone likes the idea, and later i will post my team.

You dont have defencive balnce, your team would be exposed and beaten on counter attacks.

Re: Best XI of all time
Putting my Real madrid hate aside, this is the most un-biased team i could come up with the players that I have seen:
----------------Buffon-----------

Ronaldinho---------- Zidane --------
Raul ----Ronaldo ----T.Henry
subs:
Messi
Cr7
Redondo
Iker

Nesta
Del Piero
Giggs
Figo

Re: Best XI of all time
I'll go with my team.
Goalkeeper: Gianluiggi Buffon, simply the best ever. Handling, reflexes, command of area, 1 on 1. he had it all.
Left back: Paolo Maldini, you dont have to say much about Maldini, intransitive in deffence, great in attack. He define this position for players such as Roberto Carlos and others.
Centre-back: Franco Baressi: Playing as a libero with defence, he also had to bring the ball out, and organise attacks from the back. Great tactical understanding of the game, technique, fighting spirit, leadership, Baressi had it all. While he wasnt phisically best, he made it up with his approach, bravery and inteligence. What Maradona was in attack, it was Baressi in defence.
Centre-back: Fabio Cannavaro: When cb wins the golden ball, then its clear what a player he is. When Materazzi beside him look as a great player, then its clear what a player he is. Tackticaly great, jumping, tackling, speed. Cannavaro was most complete defender of the last decade.
Right back: Javier Zanetti: Il capitano as they call him still a great player at 37. Great in deffence, imperious in attack. Started as a left wing, and played almost every position on the pitch and always was fantastic.
Central Midfield: Javier Redondo: He had every single characteristic of a great atack midfielder, yet he was briliant in defence. Tacticaly, Techniqaly fantastic player, he would hade bigger career if it not for injurys.
Centar Midfield: Genaro Gattuso: This position would be reserve for Claude Makelele, but you cant overlook Gattuso's contribition to Milan. Great fighter, always works for the team. It is his play that enables players like Kaka and Pirlo to shine.
Attacking midfielder: Zinedine Zidane: Most complete midfielder of the decade. Always knew what to with the ball, player that every manager would love to work with. He won it all, scoring goals in finals of two biggest competitons: World Cup and Champions League.
Left Wing: Ryan Giggs: Still great player at 38 years old. He still beats all younger heirs that Sir Alex brings in club. Great player both in tactical and tehnical sense, and has that extra something to alwas make fools of english fullbacks.
Right Wing: Francesco Totti: Princ of Rome How he never won golden ball is beyond me. Totti has so much class in his play, he regulary nutmegs defenders and goalkeepers, when you tought he will shoot with panic, he chips the ball and make fool of goalkepper. Fantastic player.
Striker: Andriy Shevchenko. Altough most expect Ronaldo here it is Sheva that makes the cut. Fast, strong, great finisher, great techinque. He could play on wing or as a lone striker and always be top player.

Re: Best XI of all time
well this is gonna be a tough one. Here goes:
Zanetti----Nesta---Puyol-----Alves
-------------Mascherano---------------
---------Zidane---------Xavi---------
--------------Ronaldinho----------------
--------Messi---------Henry--------
Zanetti - Had to put him as LB as I couldnt think of anyone else worthy of the spot. He can also help out defensively in the midfield since 3/4 midfielders are attacking players.
Nesta - I haven't seen Maldini enough so I went with Nesta
Puyol - The man, the legend. He may not be as athletic as guys like Cannavaro or T. Silva, but he always seems to make heroic tackles when needed.
Alves - Best RB in the world by far.
Mascherano - He's just such a beast, I couldn't think of a better destroyer to compliment this team of attacking talent. Masch will ALWAYS get you.
Zidane - Zizou has to have a place on the team. It's hard to keep Xavi and Zidane on the same team so I had to adjust the midfield to a diamond formation. Ideally I wanted more width but I had to sacrifice.
Xavi - He will be playing in the deep playmaker role. He needs to have the center to playmake, so Zidane will push up quite often to help get the ball to Ronaldinho.
Ronaldinho - He will always have a place in my starting 11. His will be the true AMF of the team, and his excellent passing will help get Messi and Henry into scoring positions.
Henry - Outstanding player who can link up well and score outrageous goals, as well as simple ones.
Messi - No introduction needed.

This a very biased formation, because Zanetti was more famous for playing RB spot.
About 5 defenders better than Puyol in a decade: Thuram, Nesta, Cannavaro, Ayala, Ferdinand.
No Maldini or RC3 for LB spot? Fail

Re: Best XI of all time
Sorry yeah I fecked it up I was playing too much FM and I confused my lefts and rights. Anyway, as for Puyol, I did originally have Ayala there but switched in Puyol because he has 3 Champion's League titles and a WC which alone is enough to put him over Ayala imo although it's very close, I really miss Ayala, best Argentine central defender since Passarella imoGrande_Milano wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:Casillas

Re: Best XI of all time
In my opinion the best XI ever is:
Also, I think Pele is interchangeable with any of the front 4, and I think you could also take out Carlos, put Maldini at leftback, and Baresi or even Cannavaro at centerback, and I wouldnt argue. But overall, I prefer it this way. But Pele, Garrincha, Muller, and Beckenbauer are all based on rep more than anything. Only using players that I personally have watched, I would put Ronaldinho in Garrincha/Peles spot, Cannavaro in Beckenbauers spot, and Ronaldo in Mullers spot.
Kahn
Zanetti Maldini Beckenbauer Carlos
Matthaus Zidane
Maradona Baggio Garrincha
Muller
Zanetti Maldini Beckenbauer Carlos
Matthaus Zidane
Maradona Baggio Garrincha
Muller
