Did someone just undermine Xavi's performances for Espana? LOL.

Xavi along with Xabi Alonso was hands down the best playmaker in the World cup.

This BS about assists then? Then I guess Andrea Cossu is a better playmaker then Pirlo.

Xavi's job in the world cup was to control, possess, distribute, dominate and overall envision the whole dynamic system of the game as he was the architect of the final 3rd of the pitch. Much harder job then Ozil.

Chances created, meaning scintillating crosses, passes, through-balls and other forms of ingenius.

Why doesn't it count as an assist? Simply cause it wasn't finished or some act of brilliant defending to counter it.

This is a very simple version of what I've already gone through dozens of times.

Assists are terrible stats, so misleading. And yes, I said the same when Xavi got like 20 something a few seasons ago too.

Its a stat which people use to display an a players aability, but its based 50% on something out of said players control. The ability of a teammate to finish.

I also fail to understand why people use it for players like Xavi, as a marker of their performances.

Assists are about the final pass in the final first, obviously those who spend the most time in that 3rd of the pitch have the best chance of making assists.

Seeing as players like Xavi (and others like Pirlo) dont play the majority of their games in the final third, it doesnt tell you much at all about thier performance and how well they are doing their role.

The fact Xavi creates chances and makes final passes are just a testiment to how great he is, because that isnt even his primary function.
