I know lads, I know its only goal.com , but a boy can dream, cant he?
Firstly, he is cup-tied after playing for Rennes in a European qualifying game.
Secondly, don't know how reliable but a BBC journalist reported not too long ago that arsenal never made a bid for him like some suggested earlier and that his agent says his client ain't moving until 40 million euros bid is made. That is over 35 million pounds.
Rennes are in a strong position to negotiate considering he has about a whooping 4 more years on his contract and he is in the French team. I don't believe arsenal will ever spend that sum on a player who is cup-tied. No sensible club will.
If he will come, then he will only come for much less than the ridiculous figure quoted.
Actually, we can "upgrade" a player into the Champions League, I believe.
Besides, I don't think the prospect of him missing all our Champions League games should dissuade us from signing him. The long term benefits of the signing for out-weight the short.
Hello, hello, look again...
The main point of discussion here is the transfer fee regardless of whether he can be upgraded, degraded or anything. Lille want an outrageous amount, which for me, has defeated sensibility and defined insanity. Football is in a time of inflated transfer fees and while I feel paying slightly over the odds is okay, I am not in the same boat when it comes to hyper-inflation which I feel is what Rennes are doing.
Long-term benefits far outweigh the short? We shouldn't talk as if his success in the Pl is a guarantee, what if he comes to arsenal and then he ends up not matching his ridiculous transfer fee performance-wise on the pitch and then we end up with a re-sale value that is less than the money spent for him? Will we still be talking about 'long-term benefits'?
I'd like him to come in, in fact, I want him to because I think he could do very well for us but not at 35mil pounds which is more than double the amount we have ever splashed on one player. That is why I say if he is to come, then he will come for less than the fee quoted because I believe arsenal won't pay as much, regardless of atomic, tiny, short, middle or long-term benefits.
Do you think Wenger has succumb pulling a harry rednap? If he is wiling to drops 20 plus mil on a player, its safe to say the player is going to be well worth it (i hope u don't bring up mr fox in the box Francis Jeffers...apart from that buy , every time wenger has "splashed" on -by his standards- on a player, the price tag has been justified with trophies or mid season rescue.

No "official" bid from arsenal has even been received by Rennes according to to the guy's agent and this was just reported around today by a BBC journalist which possibly counters those tabloids that are claiming this or that in terms of how much we have bid.
Anyway, did you even understand my post? I am complaining about 35 million pounds that Rennes want and here you are telling me "if he is willing to drops 20 plus mil one a player...". Who complained about 20 mil plus? If Arsene is going to spend 20 mil plus on him, that is fine, afterall, he has a record of bringing some good players.
Before more people misunderstand me, I'm all for bringing the guy to the club but not at 35 mil pounds. Believe me, not even Wenger will agree on that fee. The fact that I say a player being valued at "35 mil pounds" as too much does not mean I am saying the player is rubbish.
To make it easier, what I am simply saying is that Rennes are demanding way too much in my opinion.

Are the rumours for Gotze true?
Also Happy with Mertersacker, Santos and Park Chu Young.
Now we need a midfielder I honestly only expected three players this week but to think we might get FOUR!!

Joel Campbell to Lorient on a loan, according to ESPN.
M'Vila has not been registered for the Champions League, so he is not cup tied even though he has played in the Europa.

Why is Honda a backup plan? I woud get him before anyone else.RealGunner wrote:mertesacker n santos are done deals
Think we can breathe now lol.
Now for the midfielder(s)
There can be more then 1 midfielder but 1 would be enough.
If i have to guess i think it will be between M'vila and Martin. If not them then our backup options are Honda and Shquiri
benayoun = last resort

Wenger loves his french players, better adjustment and understanding, plus Ligue 1 > Russian league. I would take Honda with open arms though.

I never said we should pay the absurd fee him. I don't think we should, either. My point was that in regards to reasons not to sign him, the fact he is cup-tied is not good enough. It'd be a minor inconvenience.

Scott Murray of The Guardian reports Arsene Wenger is targeting the man that was far too pricey for Fergie to take a stab at.

I doubt the board will invest that much into Sneijder. His wages are ridiculous, and if Man Utd were turned off by his demands, we sure as hell will be.
12 hours to go, and we still desperately need that AM.
I pray to god that its not Yossi.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Hey if he would be willing to take a pay cut, sure why not? He was kinda borderline flop for inter last year. I still think someone like Arteta would be ideal for us.
He has Pl experience
Cheaper
Old enough not to hinder Ramsey's progression
Not cup tied
in return he would get to play for
CL club
Higher salary
Finally have a chance to get a spain call up
dare i say silverware?"

pay cut, I understand where people are coming from when they say that. Unfortunately, if we don't start to look at our pay scale. We will continue to have a hard time bringing in WC players or keeping those that turn into WC players while at arsenal.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Some one explain to me why there is so much demand for M'Vila who is a talented young DM (no doubt) when we have Song (remember him season before last when HE ACTUALLY SAT BACK?) who is 23 and FRIMPONG (you have seen what potential the kid has and the energy and the passion) who is 20 (?).
To pay ~30million for a DM when we need a playmaker/AM? Not Wenger. I really doubt we need him. Unless we are planning to switch to a double DM pivot. In which case we'll have a problem playing Wilshere and Ramsey together. TBH, we do not need him!
(Please feel free to convince me otherwise! )

we need a CAM/CM before we go for M'Vila now, after what ive seen from the Frimpong we can thave the SONG N PONG Connection for a few years to come. PLayers we should go for and even though some of thes prob no chance list them anyway.
Kaka, Hamsik, Gourcuff, Moutinho, De Rossi, Alcantara, Lass Diarra, Gago, Arteta, Hazard, Honda, Dempsey, Sneijder,

Also, don't forget, Coquelin had a decent game at OT. We do have a fair share of DMs. I wouldn't mind M'Vila if its a player swap plus cash deal with Coquelin involved. Don't give Coquelin much chances to break into our 11 with FrimSong and then the holy trinity behind him. Also, anyone remember a certain Craig Eastmond?

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Rather cash in on him. Right now, our DMs list is 4 players long, while we effectively use 1 a match and 2 when we go defensive. The third DM himself becomes a squaddie and I'd rather Coquelin be a squaddie than get M'Vila in and make Frimpong that squaddie.
Remember. We have Wilshere yet to come back and take 1 of 3 midfield spots!
