Valencia are sticking to their €30million (£26.4million) price tag on in-demand winger Juan Mata, according to reports in Spain.

The Spain international is a reported target for Chelsea, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger having ruled his club out of the running at the weekend.

Tottenham expressed an interest earlier in the summer, but their pursuit has since cooled due to the excessive asking price.

And Madrid-based sports newspaper Marca claims Valencia rebuffed an offer from Chelsea totalling €25million (£21.9million) this week.

The Blues, the report suggests, are preparing to order Fernando Torres to convince his international team-mate of the merits of a move to Stamford Bridge.

To be fair, Matallanas a blogger from AS, reported about Chelsea contacting his dad last week, at the same time as Arsenal and Tottenham just before his new clause activate, to show interest. There might be some elements of truth.

one thing he almost never gets wrong at least is the genuine interest clubs have for some players.

lol, does he? it's always interesting to see how differently people look at some situations... anyway, balague never talked about Chelsea bidding, Marca did. That's how i know it's an exaggeration from Marca again, since Matallanas reported about the same as balague, mere interest.

Who would replace him? Valencia losing their star forward isnt good for business.

piatti and canales for left wing, jonas and parejo for cam, pablo and feghouli for right wing, bernat can get a run out on the left as well, plus jordi is still a left winger technically...

but the most important part is getting a fuckton of money to spend on defenders...

Canales isnt really a winger, and none of those guys are close to mata, true story. You would be taking a huge bet.

Mata doesnt just play as a winger, he does so much more.

La salida de Mata del Valencia es inminente. El Valencia ha aceptado la oferta de 28 millones del Chelsea que permitirá al centrocampista español emigrar a la Premier League.

17 or 18 million will be given a deadline to be determined, but Abramovich has committed itself to pay promptly. The remaining revenue into Valencian are formalized in the transfer.

The signing is imminent and Mata join with the English club for the next five seasons. Vilas Boas team had booked the number 10 for the recent European Champion U '21.

That translates to, 'Mata goes to Chelsea. [This is] information, not opinion. News now.' Pretty unambiguous, I'd say, although I'd be a little worried about taking anything as gospel until more outlets are picking it up (not that foreign media sources are bad, it's just that I'm bad at picking up nuance). It's also unclear how far in the transfer process the clubs are, with some sources saying that Mata is yet to agree to leave Valencia and some seemingly far more sure that this is actually going to happen.
