Abate Wants Italy Call Up

Milan full-back Ignazio Abate is determined to earn his place in the Italy squad. “I don’t have as much quality, so always have to go 100kph.”

The 24-year-old started his career as a winger and was transformed into a full-back with the Rossoneri, but is yet to earn a call-up from Cesare Prandelli.

“I am a lad who has to give 100 per cent at all times to improve, because perhaps I don’t have as much quality as Alessandro Nesta or Thiago Silva, so I always have to go 100kph,” he told Sky Sport.

“I have ambitious targets with this team and haven’t won nearly as much as my Milan teammates, so I and the other youngsters in the side have 3,000 more reasons to seek trophies, including the Champions League.

“There are many great full-backs who are doing well at club level and therefore the Italy squad. I just need to keep working and make it difficult for the Coach to drop me every Sunday.”

Abate has had a remarkable career progression considering he has only recently become a full-back.

“This position means you need to be concentrated for all 90 minutes and see many things from another angle.”

He was being modest. He isn't going to out to the media and say :"I'm the best in italy." Because that would be disrespectful,an adverb which never fails to describe you.

How do you feel in this team?
“Not like a veteran. I feel young here also because there are already veterans, the old historical group that has won so much and still have a great a desire to win that they share with us every day.”

Last season was one of maturity.
“Yes but that is over and we’ve also win in Beijing. Now we have a goal – the Serie A & the Champions League – 2 big goals.”

In Beijing, did you face something more than just Inter?
“It was a difficult game, for the climate, the atmosphere, but I think that between the first and second time we looked at each other, we saw that we could win the game and we came back in a different approach to the field and we saw a great Milan.“

What are you asked to do by Allegri?
“In training, I have to give 100% in order to be able to improve, because perhaps I do not have the quality of the various of [Alessandro] Nesta, Thiago [Silva], so I always give 100 per cent.”

What was the hardest thing to learn in order to be a fullback?
“It’s normal, the defensive phase. You must stay focused for 90 minutes, and you see many things with another perspective.”

Abate gives an interview in which he shows modesty and the correct mindset to continue improving and we have a thread jumping on an incomplete article stating the bleeding obvious.

I am an Inter fan and I actually really rate Abate- I think he deserves an Italy call up and he could add some pace to a kind of sluggish squad.
