Can someone explain to me how that is possible?
It isn't.
Luis Enrique: "Replacing Rafinha? Club asked Fifa already months ago if they can sign another player, answer was 'no'. I don't count on it."
Barcelona say they already received three months ago a letter from Fifa stating they only can start registering players on 4 January [sport]
Thanks for clearing that up.

Re: Rafinha
It is theoretically possible. RFEF has a clause that if a registered player gets injured then the club can register one to replace him. Under normal conditions you would have to find a replacement that is out of a contract because the transfer is impossible, so it normally doesn't get used because the only people who do not have a contract by the middle of the season are scrubs, but in this case Arda is already at the club. And he is not registered. So we can do it. Like I said, the transfer ban is already over.

Sorry, I don't really get it.
" Under normal conditions you would have to find a replacement that is out of a contract because the transfer is impossible" ?
Yeah the transfer is impossible as the REGISTRATION period is closed, aka the transfer window.
But if RFEF allows registration in midseason as an exception, why would a transfer be impossible?
Danilo signed in March or something. Etc. Every club can buy player whenever they want, they just can't register them outside of transfer windows. Isn't that the whole point?
Or do you mean because the player could be registered with RFEF, but not with FIFA? But then wouldn't that apply to any player transfering between official registration periods too?
Maybe I'm missing something, but something doesn't make sense in your post.

It's obviously not possible otherwise Arda would already be playing now.

Re: Rafinha
Barcelona will ask ESP federation to register Arda Turan, to replace Rafinha. They also ask Fifa to authorize the registration. [catr]
note: liga teams can register a player outside normal transfer windows to replace a player who is injured for 5+ months, can only play liga
@RafaelH117
Barcelona’s transfer ban ended in August, FIFA in theory cannot impede Barça from registering players due to a grave player injury.

Barcelona have today received the legal confirmation that Fifa's two-window transfer ban ended on 31 August. [ser]
With Fifa's ban ended, their should be no more obstacle to register Arda Turan for Liga and Copa, to replace lont-term injured Rafinha [ser]

Re: Rafinha
Again, what I wonder is: if the league grants exception to register players later in case of a bad injury - wouldn't Barca be able to sign any player and register him now (for the league only, as I understand)? Why would the player have to be already at the club?
And what does FIFA have to do with it? Does Turan have to be registered with FIFA before he can be registered with RFEF? Since this rule seems to be special from RFEF and so only pertains to the Spanish league, if I understand right?
Can anyone explain how this works?

Re: Rafinha
Hans here is how Freixa explains it:
http://www.barcablaugranes.com/2015/9/19/9355409/barcelona-can-register-arda-turan-rafinha-replacement-club-official
I tried looking for article 124.3 online but can't find it. If anyone does please post a link so we can get further clarification
Edit:
Found it: http://cdn1.sefutbol.com/sites/default/files/pdf/REGLAMENTO_GENERAL_2015-2016.pdf
Basically a club is allowed to register a player if one of the existing players gets sick/injured for 5 months or more, so long as it doesn't require an international transfer. Since Arda and Aleix were both signed from within La Liga it is possible to register them.
Futbol can translate the rest.

aaah ok, that's the missing link I was looking for. Thanks.
Guess it has to do with this ITC certificate or some shit.
But that means that, theoretically Barca could buy any La Liga player and register them as Rafinha's replacement now.

Barcelona drew up a list of former registrations of players based on Spanish rules regarding injured players. Fifa never intervened. [md]
If Fifa don't reply in next few days to request regarding Arda, Barcelona will register him. ESP federation don't see legal problem. [md]

Re: Rafinha
It can't be intentional because if we do this Rafinha can't play for 5 months. Won't be a problem if the recovery progresses as expected, but if he heals quickly I can't imagine he would be happy about this.

Re: Rafinha
Oh that makes more sense. I thought it was just if a player was expected to be out for more than 5 months, and if they return early they can play.

The butthurt from other club fans after Barcelona signs Suarez, Rakitic etc. before the transfer ban, Arda and Aleix Vidal during the transfer ban and then gets to register Arda earlier than initially allowed.

Hmm.
Interesting situation, if I was FIFA, who's out to get Barca as we all know, I'd argue that the exceptions granted by RFEF to belatedly register a player in case of severe injury should be seen as exceptional extensions of the previous registration window, in which case it could be argued the transfer ban applies to these extensions as well

Re: Rafinha
Wasn't a transfer ban, was a ban from registering players during 2 windows which passed.
Barca actually have a pretty strong case here as per the rule within RFEF.
Prepare yourselves for the massive butt hurt around the planet when we get Turan in the squad earlier than expected
