Manchester United have reached full agreement with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong, after further talks. Package worth €85m. Fee guaranteed around €75m plus add-ons

Personal terms, still the issue to be resolved - as Frenkie’s priority is to stay at Barcelona.

He has a contract. Barca are able to pay him off if they want him out so badly...

If FDJ to Man Utd happens, he's going to do great initially. Lots more space and he's always been a good ball carrier. It showed even in Barca games where he was allowed to lead the transitions from Defence to Attack. I think he'll struggle later if Utd don't have a cohesive philosphy (as is usually the case).

Pity we are asking him to leave. Yes Bernardo would be a step up, but what we've lacked is people giving their 100% for the club, and FDJ seemed like he really wants to be here. If there's a salary reduction on the table, he should take it just to continue being in a CL team and his dream club.

That's not to say Bernardo won't give his 100%, but I kind of feel that FDJ is getting a raw deal through not much fault of his own.

Only thing I can fault him for is whining a bit during the Koeman -> Xavi transition. Very minor though.

I think Barca are stuck between a rock and a hard place. LaLiga does not allow more than a 50% salary reduction. So even if he got a 50% reduction he would still earn far too much and higher than their salary limit. Still it's a binding contract and I wish DeJong would hire a lawyer right now instead of letting an agent deal with the matter

They haven't had one since SAF left. They recycle their managers instead  

Incoming transfers aside, I think getting rid of both Pogba and CR7 has already been a big step in the right direction, in terms of finally being able to drill a certain style of football into the team. I imagine whoever replaces them will provide more tactical versatility as well. They've definitely lost individual talent, but cohesion may be more of what they need in order to find some consistency. Acquiring the right profiles and level of talent they need will likely continue to be a challenge for them, as long as they don't have a sporting director, and with the current state of their pulling power.
