Trump supporters have now breached the Capitol building and are surrounding both chambers of Congress. The Senate and House have paused the certification of the electoral vote count and are being evacuated as tear gas has been seen in the building.

Problem is that there isn't a 50/50 divide on a lot of the issues that are going to get blocked.

The divide in America is almost purely a "we support different sports/civil war team" divide

Not really. There's a blue majority. They're all in the same team, just different factions within.

Scenes from DC right now are pretty crazy... and also very familiar for those of us that lived under populist regimes. The US's banana republicanization continues.

I’m speaking about political issues. Most democratic policies are widely wanted and not a divide in the public.

The public isn’t divided there. Lobbyists have created a divide that’s mainly rooted in racism and tribalism and not about actual policy.

Seems kinda reductive to just say "it's the lobbyists fault". The US has extreme polarization for a number of reasons, and lobbyists are just a piece of the puzzle.

Capitol Hill is its own jurisdiction. Only the Capitol Hill police can operate there UNLESS the Speaker of the House calls for help (Speaker of the House is the authority).

The blame is on Nancy Pelosi and the Capitol Hill police for not planning properly.
