Re: Italy election
Can't believe 10% of the south voted for Lega (Nord)
Personally voted for Europa+, don't think they even made it to 2.5% but they did well among the diaspora
Also going to drop this here:

Re: Italy election
Movimento Cinque Stelle is the biggest FRAUD ever.
It is a disgrace.
They are nothing, they are the worst form of populism, nor right neither left, they don't take sides , no positions about immigration , civil rights etc they just made parliamentary filibustering , even through ridicolous battles as the " danger of vaccines " !1!1!
They got consensus because of " anti-policy" , " because there is aversion towards the old political class ... and so they present theirself as the fresh face of policy etc
But indeed they are nothing ( and infact they governed badly in Torino and Roma )
Fraud is the proper word
I voted Liberi e Uguali ( Grasso) , a left party born by political split within PD.
I can't identify me on a PD, a pary that pretends to be considered as centre-left but it is just a liberal democratic party. I "awarded" the scission but well they are nothing of special...... And infact both PD and LEU got bad result.
Terrible moment.
Lega Nord got consensus even in South because Lega changed its nature under Salvini. Basically they are the Italian Front National now.
Not anymore a regionalist party, but a national right party
Of course I despise them as I did it before. Perhaps even more.

Re: Italy election
Yeah but only 8 years ago Salvini was singing about the neapolitans being "smelly, sickly and earthquake-victims" (views that I think he holds for the entire south) so I'm surprised he was forgiven for such comments.

Re: Italy election
Salvini wants to be another Trump and M5S is the bottom of the barrel in politics, the kind of shameless populism that has been cancer for latin america. Its such a terrible state of things.

Re: Italy election
M5S and Lega finally had formed a coalition representing everything that's broken in politics. They pitched the government to Matarella (president) and he approved of all except the finance minister, anti-euro. Euro membership had been a big point but it had got to the stage where both parties "dismissed" talks of leaving the EU. Then the appointment of this minister threw Matarella off and he blocked it.
Now some are filling for the president to be impeached while others say we need new elections. Probably elections will be done again.

Re: Italy election
When would the new elections be? Doesn't every poll state that if there were new elections both M5S and Lega would do better?

Re: Italy election
Unless I haven't caught up with the news it doesn't look like it has backfired at all. Matarella took a massive one for the team to try to salvage things. Now we'll probably have a lot of nothing getting done as all sides fight until another election occurs. Worse case scenario L+M5S win again and we are back on track to before Matarella's veto. Best case scenario negotiations lead to a softening on the euro policies from the populist coalition that still rule, or they lose a vote (more unlikely).

Re: Italy election
I don't really understand what good it's supposed to do.
Going by the polls they will just come back stronger? I don't see how that would soften their position.

whats the other option? At least the president did all he could, might as well try. Now there will be a transition government.

Re: Italy election
I don't think there's anything he can actually do to be fair.
I'm just worried about them getting a 2/3 majority the next time, giving them even more power (I think, I'm hardly an expert on the italian system).

Movimento Cinque Stelle is the triumph of the ignorance
Lega Nord is the triumph of the right side( so the ignorance)

Well, considering PD is literally dead..
Anyway I can't blame Mattarella.
If you propose a man (Savona) who had as solution something as printing the money at house alone it's normal I say " wait, I am sorry , but I must avoid to finish as Argentina " ( the economic model so envied by Grillo ... )
But furthermore those 2 idiots of Salvini and Di Maio hadn't another name in place of Savona ?
It'd have been enough to propose another name and they'd have got this government.
Evidently they didn't even care and they wanted to get this so as to scream against the major powers

Markets are freaking out because the new election is seen as a referendum on the euro. If M5S and Lega win again it will be a more extreme version of them that take power.

It' s true. If I remember well you can speak Italian so I think you don't need of translation
On the other hand Grillo thinks also that Lagos ( Niger ) is an ideal city, one of best cities in the world to live, an example of wellbeing and development that Sicily should imitate. !
Not surprised Roma (administred by Grillini) must stop a stage of the Giro d'Italia because of holes in the ground
But sincerely I feel ashamed to think they get 30 % of votes with these populist adfirmations.

Re: Italy election
Lmao what an idiot. According to him we had a great time because we were able to default on our loans and eventually get out of the crisis? The default was a hugely traumatic event to most Argentines. A lot of people lost their jobs, crime skyrocketted, etc. Honestly it's quite disgusting to be so brazenly ignorant.

Re: Italy election
was on holiday cycling through Slowenia and then also into Trieste and Friuli before going back up the mountains, and even the lovely couple who ran a beautiful, laid back country house bed & breakfast we stayed in eastern Friuli -very smart, cool, likeable ~50 year people who I guess you could call ex-hippies, or even ex-punks- told us they considered the boats rescuing refugees in the mediterranean as funded by the Mafia to aid with human trafficking

Re: Italy election
and so, little over one year later, Italy is once again without government.
Salvini tabled a vote of no confidence for Conte, the primer minister, effectively dissolving the Lega+M5S coalition. Conte lashed out against Salvini in the senate and resigned.
