Stumbled into this video, found it very informative. The basic formula seems to be "take a song performed by black artists 10 years ago, reinterpret it with worse talent but higher production quality with a white pop lead and all of a sudden it becomes huge". The music industry ladies and gents

watched the first few minutes of this video, and i don't know how you came to the conclusion to racialise it because i saw just as many original versions by white people as black folk.
but yea, sampling and covers has been a thing in the music industry for years now, and the original artists and their labels get legally compensated for it.

Certainly goes both ways but I think it leans heavily in that direction if you watch the whole thing, not that I did any stats around it or anything like that
