We've been winning games but the football is awful right now. Let's hope the beautiful football comes back soon.

Babysteps. Need better centre backs and midfielders before we can start demanding more attractive football again.

^^what Jay said.
I don't mind the pragmatic approach at all. For the longest time we actually look solid defensively granted no one makes silly mistakes.

Re: Mikel Arteta Sack Watch
I think Arsenal should give him a full season. There are glimpses of a decent manager in him, although by no means he will ever be special. The best he could ever hope to get is Emery levels of success which is not bad all things considered.
Good ebening.

long enough, he just needs to continue improving our play for next season and hopefully that'll earn us a CL spot, and then he's here for the long run.

imagine if he gets the full backing from the board and gets the players he wants.
don't mean to overreact, but he could become a Simeone-Pep hybrid of a manager

you've just overreacted
if you really didn't mean to you should have done a better job instead of just doing it after a comma and a but
also, what players does he want?

He is doing the best he can with the current players. I doubt he wants to play like Simeone.

Re: Mikel Arteta Sack Watch
the way he has been playing lately, shows you he can put in a defensive masterclass (a la Simeone) if and whenever the team needs to, that's what i meant. It's good for a coach to be diverse.

defensive masterclasses are not needed at a top club
at a top club, you need to be able to be a dominant flat track bully
big game heroics are not as important as winning all games against smaller teams

Glad he is doing well. With Arteta, Lampard and Ole we have got 3 managers who are so passionate towards their respective clubs. Proper fans of their clubs. And its no wonder they are prioritizing their clubs long term future over short term glory hunters like Moaninho.

Re: Mikel Arteta Sack Watch
They played like a League Two team against Liverpool and City. Underdog mentality. Park the bus. Sub 30% possession. We get it, it works sometimes. More often than not however, it doesn't work.Myesyats wrote:didnt they park the bus all game and get lucky? wtf is going on
Watch them flop again next week against an average team.
Re: Mikel Arteta Sack Watch
Sometimes there is too much overreaction among the fans whenever a new manager either fails initially or starts winning games suddenly. There is no birth right of any club to succeed or win trophies. All you can do is maximise your chances by doing the right things. I dont think Arteta needs to finish in top 4 this season / win against Liverpool-City to be successful; other clubs are certainly not sleeping or just sitting-waiting for Arsenal to be invincibles again
You need a plan and strategy in all sections of a club, then keep improvising as you learn while executing that plan. Arteta is doing ok so far and only time will tell where he will take the club. But the current strategy where the club seem to be using mix of academy talents, shrewd signings like Tierney (although he costed double or more than Robertson but still), some WC in the form of Auba, then Ceballos also seem to be a good mixture to start with for now.
Just imagine what many of you had said about Klopp at Liverpool in the beginning

Definitely a Simeone-Pep hybrid doe.
Re: Mikel Arteta Sack Watch
Not sure what to think of him.
On one hand, he hasn't had a transfer window yet to make a team of his own, on the other hand no matter what team Arsenal have, it can't be bad enough to have 0 shots on target against Aston Villa.

Re: Mikel Arteta Sack Watch
I just watched the last 20 mins of the game and I was thinking what kind of training Arsenal do before a game. It cant be so bad that players had no clue where to make a run or where to go receive the ball. I have seen Arsenal playing much better in such situations.urbaNRoots wrote:Not sure what to think of him.

completely inconsequential game lol, not surprised at all by the result.
like i said in that same post above, the owners will have to come through with the money because we still don't have the right players, can't right off that performance against Man City just because we came up dross in a dross season with mostly still dross players in a game where our league season is over.

Re: Mikel Arteta Sack Watch
The team is dumb.
Dumb teams can defend in numbers and fluke wins against vastly superior opposition but ask them to break down a defensive team themselves and they'll have no idea.
Maybe Arteta has the best attacking scheme going, but it ain't doing shit with these players.
I mean, what is he going to do with a midfield who barely average more than 1 key pass per game? With crap wingers?
If you gave Marcelo Bielsa this squad he'd resign in a week.
Arteta is a rookie, on top of that. He'll make mistakes. The players can't or won't bail him out every time.
Yet we're looking at a guy who aspires to attacking football, having to play a defensive 343 because his options are so limited.
It's like the Ole situation at United. Played like crap until Fernandes came in. Now they look good.
Arsenal need a Fernandes like signing urgently.

Need to sell the parasite which is Ozil first.
Then we need a Marquee midfield signing. Partey is good but we need a creative midfielder.
