Re: The Official Roma Thread
One could make the argument that our football culture is pretty much a spectrum ranging from near misses/chokes to absolute implosions. If he changes that culture, the club are the better for it. That we play some nice football even when we go close and lose or we get smashed isn't all that material, results-wise.
I honestly can't argue with that logic.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Just know that when/if his tenure ends dramatically like his previous 3 stints, the Roma crowd will devour him, they're a fiery bunch and they have been more voracious to less tame coaches, Jose is anything but a circumspect coach

Agreed. Banners from ultras "talking" to the coach appearing in the City are already normal for Roma. Now there is an explosive figure like Mou who is associated with Inter's scudettos that he won over Roma 10 years ago.
When it goes wrong it will go REALLY wrong with Mou at Roma.
What Roman fans care most about is playing with their "own" (Totti, De Rossi, Florenzi, Pellegrini, Dzeko, Nainggolan, etc.) rather than giving all up to win.
Mou and Roma feels like Sarri and Juve, an ambitious mismatch.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
How long until we get the "Rome wasn't built in a day" quote?
I assume he's been promised some level of investment. If Mourinho didn't have the best team in the league he relied on big spending to catch up. Not sure if Roma will provide that for him. I can't see him winning the league barring large scale investments, but if he helps them reverse their loser mentality that's still a step in the right direction. Then again in the last decade his clubs have all been shit by the moment he gets sacked so I'm not sure how much help that will be either.

RIP Mkhitaryan?
Dzeko to renew?
4-2-3-1 with Pellegrini AM and Cristante-Veretout double pivot?
Spinazzola swapped for Mario Rui?

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Yeah there's every chance this will end badly.
My one hope is that no matter what happens, we come out of this with at least the seed for building a winning mentality. Something the next coach can build on.
Many of us are not fooling ourselves. We know this has every chance of being 1-3 years of banter. The Friedkins had to try something different so while this may not work out, it signals their intent.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
It will be interesting to see what sort of transfer budget Mourinho is given in his new job at #ASRoma
— Swiss Ramble (@SwissRamble) May 4, 2021
The club reported a loss of €204m in the 2019/20 season, have €318m financial debt, €191m transfer debt and required €210m capital from their owners in the last two years. pic.twitter.com/BsIa7dcBay
Sounds like a promising situation (:
Sarri would've been a far better appointment. Would've atleast got them punching above their weight given the situation. Won't be too long before Mourinho attacks his own players and rival teams to mask his own failures.
This is nothing more than a marketing move and has a very good chance of going to bust.

Having said that, still 10x the coach Pandemic Pirlo is. Joke's on us if we retain the winemaker for another season.

Would that mean Juve fans if done would be happy to gamble for Mou to step in for Pirlo?

Re: The Official Roma Thread
So with our season officially over, we have 4 mathematically meaningless games left (including against Inter and the Derby) before the Mourinho era officially starts. Obviously, the derby has more meaning than the others so we'll need to be up for that one, of course.
That said, this is a good time for Fonseca to play more primavera players and the deadwood. Given we have nothing to play for, it would be great if we could avoid this new Conference League. Having only Serie A to focus on is exactly what Mourinho needs to hit the ground runnning.
I don't exactly want this team to go out there and throw all 4 results away in order to avoid the Conference League, but I also don't want them stat padding and landing us in that comp either.
Safe to say, they need to just go out be themselves and, for once, let Roma happen.

Isn't Roma in the running for an EL qualifying spot vs Sassuolo?

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Jose isn't the same but Roma clearly are sick of the usual trend of the latter half of the decade. Import a manager with modest results in his league, aims for champagne football, bright signs in the beginning yet catastrophic decline eventually in the locker room and via fans. Rudi Garcia, Enrique, Fonseca.
Mourinho at least has proven results. And will be way more exciting towatch listen to than hiring Walter Zenga or someone.

A faint chance, yes, but it's highly unlikely at this point given we have Inter and Lazio among the last 4 opponents.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
So because silly season is gonna be lit this summer, I'm gonna create a running list of everyone we're linked with until the window closes:
We were linked with Mike Maignan, but Milan have signed him so he's excluded.
Andrea Belotti - Torino
Teun Koopmeiners - AZ Alkmaar
Alphonse Areola - PSG / Fulham
Granit Xhaka - Arsenal
Demarai Gray - Bayer Leverkusen
Allan Saint-Maximin - Newcastle United
Nuno Tavares - Benfica
Dusan Vlahovic - Fiorentina
Rui Patricio - Wolves
Yann Sommer - BMG
Sergio Romero - Manchester United
Nemanja Matic - Manchester United
Renato Sanches - Lille
Juan Musso - Udinese
Nathan Ake - Manchester City
Wojciech Szczesny - Juventus

Florenzi in Bianconero is not the timeline I want to live in:
Tuttosport: Florenzi could be used in swap deal to bring Szczesny back to Roma https://t.co/FIgfzYipBp

Won't happen. Don't need him. Florenzi will go to Inter to replace Hakimi.

You can forget about Saint-Maximin. He got a lot of EPL type this year, which means his market value has already surpassed what he's actually worth.

Oh yeah for sure. We're not paying 80m for anyone in this market. Hell we wouldn't pay that for anyone in the regular market either.

Yeah he would fit Mou style of play so there's that hope right now that he may get him. I only hope his injury a while back doesn't hinder what he was before the injuryMcLewis wrote:I really like Jimenez. Such a hard worker. Could see him as a Mou striker for sure.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
So Xhaka looks set to be the first signing of the Mourinho era.
Frankly, I'm a bit underwhelmed. He's going to need to win over many of us with his performances as what I saw at Arsenal doesn't particular inspire confidence.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Well so far with that purchase it looks like Mou gonna play a 3 CMs Midfield with Pellegrini Xhaka and Veretout then. I see why the underwhelm a little bit cause he's essentially the same as the other 2 and it also means Cristante and Diawara are likely going to the bench but right now it doesn't look like a big change is happening with his arrival. Roma's mid still looks the same so far
