That’s bold statement, I dont think we are favorite to win EL. Mediocre might not be the right world, average maybe. Unai might not be entirely convinced by them either hence we are trying really hard with those loan and option instead of obligation. He desperately needs players for those positions as I feel like we might crash and burn the moment Laca or Auba injued or off form.

Robespierre wrote:I am a Perisic fan but indeed he was crap this year. Poor numbers say much but not everything. Anyway they say enough in this case, his performances were poor regardless of numbers.
I believed it had to with World Cup tbh, so I hoped for his "resurrection", but when Marotta explained that Perisic wants to go to Arsenal, I've thought it had to with motivations.
Because a discontent player underperforms and Croatians are a good example of it.
Probably he'd play good again under Emery as he did in his first years in Inter ( even though inconsistency but at the end he's a solid player)
Anyway deal seems more and more difficult as time passes.
Does Denis Suarez exclude Perisic ?
No they were separate deals. But it looks like Perisic is too difficult since we don't want to have the buy clause of 35m.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Of all the young players, he's the one that needs games the most and he's not going to get any now that we're out of the FA Cup.
It wouldn't surprise me if Joe Willock was loaned somewhere as well.

PSG are looking for short-term cover for Neymar. Might be something to keep an eye on during deadline day.

Arsenal’s attempts to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan or fellow-winger Yannick Carrasco of Dalian Yifang look to be over but they are still working on Paris-St German midfielder Christopher Nkunku after sealing Denis Suarez deal. Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Arsenal pressed hard for Perisic. They want loan + option, Inter Milan want permanent or loan + obligation. So #AFC offered to pay penalty fee if loan doesn’t become permanent. No sign of #Inter budging. Far lower numbers & effort in Carrasco pursuit. Nkunku said to be 50/50 #PSG

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Suarez - Should be announced tomorrow when the paperwork is done.
Perisic - Not completely dead yet but seems unlikely there'll be a breakthrough without some major compromise.
Carrasco - Doesn't seem like we're that serious about getting him but something might happen late on if he's still available.
Nkunku - Seems dependent on PSG getting another midfielder in.
Smith Rowe and Nketiah - Rumoured to be heading off to the Bundesliga on loan.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Carrasco to Arsenal off. Player part fine but loan fee offer far too low to suggest recent interest was as serious as it seemed early Jan. Better offer from another club (reportedly AC Milan) & Dalian Yifang were offered replacement but reluctant so set to stay in China #AFC #ACM
— David Ornstein (@bbcsport_david) January 31, 2019
Meanwhile, it seems PSG are trying to sign Luciano Acosta from DC United. If they do, that would push Nkunku out the door.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Surprising that we didn’t go after Adli instead considering our effort to sign him in the summer.
Probably has to do with Nkunku's versatility, who apparently can play RB, RW, LW on top of CM.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Perisic to Arsenal off - #Inter ended all player talks yesterday, #AFC attempts to structure loan + option (+ penalty fee if option not taken) of no interest. Nkunku efforts ongoing but now very unlikely #PSG. Suarez announcement soon. Smith Rowe #RBLeipzig loan, no option to buy
— David Ornstein (@bbcsport_david) January 31, 2019
Nkunku and Perisic are off too, wtf. On the other hand PSG have booked a medical for Nkunku's supposed replacement
Edit: More signs that we'll not be signing anyone
As things stand Eddie Nketiah will not be joining Augsburg on loan. Deal has fallen apart in last few hours.

The Nkunku deal seems dead because Arsenal aren't offering enough for the purchase option.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Looking ahead to the summer, we will probably need a RB (pending using Chambers there), a GK, a backup CM or winger to fill the gaps left by players leaving, as well as a first choice CB and winger which remain the priorities since last summer ended. There's a lot of business to be done but at least we have time and opportunity to get it right in the summer and it's clear that the club has the right priorities of where we need to buy based on us seeing links in all of those positions.
Let's hope the guys who are already here have a great 2nd half of the season and give us every opportunity to form a real title challenging squad next year.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The January budget was "meager", nearly nothing to work with for permanent signings. Loan signings with options to buy was the target. Any loan signings had to have option to buy, not obligation. Targeted players were told this fact.
Arsenal vaguely explored to bring back Chambers from Fulham but that would have incurred a recall fee so Arsenal shelved the idea and focused on attacking targets.
Mavropanos highly thought of within club. Wenger was annoyed he was bought in without his opinion but he came round on his ability after watching him in training.
Arsenal thought we were well off in numbers at the back but were aware of quality issues.
Focus on defensive signings in Summer.
Arsenal were looking for box-to-box midfielder and wide player for January. Went extremely hard for Perisic. Inter were angry that we wouldn't give them an obligation to buy Perisic. There weren't interested in the reported penalty fee.
Arsenal were interested in Carrasco at start of the window. Loan fee offered was nowhere near what Dalian Yifang wanted. When Arsenal went back in for him after Perisic, the loan fee didn't change.
Serious interest in Nkunku throughout the staff. Thought it could have been done. Needed PSG to get a midfielder for deal to go through. Politics in play with Tuchel and Mislantat. Wouldn't be surprised if we go back in for him in the Summer.
Emery likes experienced players and players he knows and trusts, hence Denis Suarez.
Rumored reports on the potential of us going in for Rabiot.
Emery was highly on board with Guendouzi signing. If Guendouzi didn't go through, Emery would have been interested in N'Zonzi.
Shock to everyone at club that Gazidis left. Everyone thought he would smooth over the transition process before leaving.
Mislantat wanted the technical director role in the club. No recommendation after Gazidis left to take the role.
Jason Rosenfeld was included in the panel to select the new manager.
Mislantat led Carrasco & Perisic deals but then Raul took over those deals after Mislantat was confirmed to leave.
Mislantat's plan was to step back in year 1 to assess the squad and then step in to restructure it but by then it was too late as he is now leaving.
Whoever takes the Techinical Director role has to be known and trusted by Emery or have a strong connection with Arsenal.
Monchi is Raul & Emery's first choice for the role. Ornstein heard from someone it's a done deal but not sure and will probably hear more in the coming days/weeks.
Looking to head towards an intelligent recruitment model, i.e. buy unknowns, develop them into talents and either keep or sell them for money to re-invest into the team.
Doesn't believe there was a fallout between Raul & Sven, just that their outlooks conflicted each others.
Self sustaining model is set to continue.
Arsenal set well in analytics etc.
Arsenal impressed with Ljungberg and Mertesacker. Emery's training sessions are intense.
Kroenke's leaving Raul and Vinai to run club as they are happy with how they go about things.
Ornstein not seeing a clear vision of what Kroenke wants for the club or what the plan is.
Most of Arsenal's directors were at the Superbowl on Sunday. City's directors were surprised at the low number of them at the match on Sunday.
Emery long-term appointment. Club expects 4/5 transfer windows before they get to where they want to be competitively.
Ornstein has heard that we can have around £100m in Summer but doesn't want to say that for a fact as he is not completely sure.
Some within the club didn't want to give Ozil a contract and some didn't want Ozil to be on that wage. Ozil had bargaining power due to Sanchez leaving.
Troubles with how Ozil is settling in Emery's play-style.
Ornstein not sure whether his story of Ozil being recommended to leave was from Emery, the hierarchy or both.
Ozil is training well and not a problem within the camp.
Theorizes that Ozil is not playing so he will be forced to leave in the Summer, thus saving Arsenal millions.

What a surprise

Spending big has gotten us nowhere so it's not like having 500m will do us a world of good. What we need is to get players who works for Emery imo.
