unreal. you're losing the plot. Imagine hyping up playe performances against Saussolo of all teams.
Even if i were to entertain this Romagnoli/Bailly debate, you wouldn't even be able to comprehend my thought process for a good defender. Even if i were to explain to you how Romagnoli is better at every facet, you just wouldn't get the bigger picture, the PL has dulled your senses of what makes a good defender. You see Bailley and think generational talent, i see Bailly and think low IQ-high energy, high pace player. I can't go in depth much more than these laymen terms for the typical donkey watcher, you are watching 3D chess, meanwhile i'm on 9D Sudoku every week in Serie A. You get to know who's good and who's bad, who's worth his salt and who isn't.
Seriously, I really am trying to see what Utd fans see in Bailly. Really don't think he is anywhere close or would ever be close to how much they big him up.

Juric was sacked (again) on sunday, by all logic he should come back in 2 months.
Whilst i can understand Genoa's significance in Italy, they display some pretty poor teams over the years so i dislike them. Relegation battle means it's time to wake up.

The days where Serie A was a league lauded for it's defensive prowess and tactical acumen are years past, lad. Romagnoli is a nothing. Another Ogbonna. Probably be at the likes of Chievo 5 years from now.

I think it's funny how a lot of us talk about how we've grown away from football a bit but every time international break rolls around everyone talks about how awful it is, and how much we hate it.
Which is true, hate it

We need to abolish Internationals, its tough enough already playing football for 11 months non-stop with minimal breaks. No wonder footballers get injured so frequently.

Re: The 2017/18 Calcio Thread: Part 2
exactly, i can understand not wanting to watch a 100+ fifa ranked squad but what drew me into being a superfan in the first place was Italy in the world cup...i even have a photo as a baby in full italy gear for the 94 world cup
its kind of a bother to break up the season but honestly there should not be any higher aspirations for a player than to play for his NT
Its why we play in the first place

I realize it sounds weird but even if I am Italian and I live in Italy I have not hype for Sweden -Italy , playoff for World Cup. Anyway I ' m counting the days missing for Inter - Atalanta.

Notice how Milan became Milano and Genoa became Genova because Mussolini didn't wan't anything foreign, and Internazionale Milano became Ambrosiana because the Fascists hated anything "international".

Most of these club still exist at the high level, Venezia could be back in Serie A in some years. Only Liguria i never heard about.
From what i can understand from the italian wiki they are ancestors of Sampdoria ??
1945 - La Sampierdarenese partecipa alla Divisione Nazionale come continuatrice del Liguria.

Yes, they were a club formed by a previous union of the clubs that would form Sampdoria. When Serie A resumed after the war, the regional championships ended, the clubs reformed into Sampdoria. Liguria is the region where Genova (and thus Samp) is located.

AC Liguria was renamed Sampierdarenese for the first post-war season (1945-1946). In August 1946 prior to the next season, Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria merged and competed in the 1946-1947 and subsequent seasons as Sampdoria. At least that's how I read it.

Re: The 2017/18 Calcio Thread: Part 2
Something like that. I looked into it a bit and it sounds like Sampierdarense and Doria has joined to be La Dominante for a while. Then that got renamed AC Liguria for a few years. Then with the reinstatement of Serie A Liguria ceased to exist and Sampierdarense had the rights to be in A, but was broke. So they fused again and renamed it Sampdoria for the 46/47 season.

The Ambrosiana-Inter of Giuseppe Meazza
At the begining it was just Ambrosiana because yes, fascism couldn't tolerate a club named Internazionale that sounded as a socialist name ( the good ol days of ' Communist International").. anyway the supporters at stadium incited the team saying " Forza Inter" and so FIGC, pressed from club, accepted to change in "Ambrosiana-Inter" in 1931(three years after)
Thanks Breva to have shared this !
It was the same also for surname or cities of course.
Paul Newman became " Paolo Uomonuovo"
Louis Armstrong became " Luigi Bracciaaforte"
Buenos Aires became " Buonaria " !
Etc
