30 million no less. Best young left back in the world and will be THE best left back in the world in 1 or 2 years. If Coentrao is here to replace Marcelo that is another story but I think Coentrao will be used in midfield.

And yet most of Barca's goals came from his flank, i truly believe Madridsta's when they say his defending has become better, this i found out was in reference to his 1v1 defending which at times was very good. However my biggest concern with him was he gets carried away in his furrows forward, and lets not forget that he has the most feared Winger in the world playing on his flank which makes him less marked than most rampaging lb.

But i've said many times that Real suits Marcelo's style but Lb's should'nt really be attacking unless one can cover for him sufficiently

I'd pay 15m max for him.

Last season was his breakout season, where he actually started performing well. I'd like to see him going another season like that before paying more.

That proves nothing im afraid, 1 great challenge vs half a season of blunders tactical and mental. The most important measuring stick one should use to ascertain defensive skills is in consistency, its no good making one great challenge on the worlds best player and then later get burnt by an inexperienced youngster.

He didn't go against Marcelo in the classicos. Afellay says hi.

Same with the myth that Zanetti nullified Messi last season when Messi also played centrally.

I do somewhat agree with you. He was pretty bad against Afalley but let me remind you in the rest of the Clasicos I do think Marcelo was very solid and good. It was a very poor performance against Afalley by Marcelo but do not let that judge him alone. He was great against Tottenham, and in Lyon he was MotM. He has been really solid in the defence.

Yes i share your assessment of him during the Cl he was solid and proved a valueable game breaker in the during the ties against lyon and barca.

However i never doubt marcelo's talent going forward i'm merely insisting that if he wants to be recognisied as a good defender he mustn't succumb to lapses in his concentration during 90 minutes of play, because the reality is he might win you games but he might also cost you games aswell

You can say that to about every attacking fullback. Maicon costed Inter 1 goal against Barca, he completly let Maxwell run free and it costed them a goal yet he was recognised as the best RB that year. It is a expense that can cost you, but you evolve as a player and learn, which Marcelo has showed he can do.

Yes Maicon did make a mistake but he showed his experience and remained calm and was able to go on with his business.. his performance against barca and throughout that entire season spoke of majurity.

Marcelo is still a bit erratic , not that it is an entirely bad thing, but it hampers his consistency
