because if we use this logic, it doesnt matter how well any madrid player did in any of the clasicos afterward, because they all played terrible in the 5-0 loss.

sigh, do I have to say it again? It's easy to judge a player off of a few games where he played well, but why not take all the games he has played (including the bad ones i.e: 5-0) and the good ones. That was my point from the beginning and I don't see why it has taken you so long to realize it.

next time there is a messi debate, i will be looking for you to post about his poor performances.

All the games including the 5th clasico.

if 5 is the full amount of games then 2 is a few not 4. And the last 4 games 6 months after the 5-0, is more relevant when judging Marcelo's abillities, because he is not the same player as he was back in November

It's the same team and the same player, you guys just changed tactics when playing Barcelona. Madrid hasn't been challenged at all other than in the clasico's.

If we go by his whole career then he is a terrible defender. Even RM fans were saying he improved leaps and bounds THIS year. The point in bringing up the 5-0 games is because like I said earlier, some posters on this site (maybe not you) act like Barca and Real only played 4 games this year and just ignore the 5-0. And like I was saying MArcelo was notgreat in those games, they had to play 5 defenders to compensate I think for him because he is your weakest defender in my opinion because I rate all of your other defenders and GK very highly.

Bottom line I would not swap Marcelo for any left back in the world. Ok Cashley is better but Marcelo is only 23 and lol @ marcelo is average at defending he nearly always wins his 1 v 1s his problem is attacking too much and not being back covering the CBs but that improved a lot last season.

Real Madrid tried to play their game vs Barcelona and that's what happened. Had to switch to full defense mode to grind out results

Well that is a very loose statement I would take all of these LB's in a heartbeat over Marcelo. Bale (he can play there), Evra, Lahm, Cole, Capdevilla, coentrao and that just off the top of my head. I mean take off your Madrid goggles for just 1 thread. I'm a Barca fan and I can tell you Maxwell sucks.

I think we can agree that its an outlier, in probabilities it would be at the tip of the tail.

Yes it was an outlier, but I thought it took more courage to play like that, then to play with 5 defenders and play not to win when you played the final league game vs Barca. I mean you had to win that game to have a shot at La Liga and you were HAPPY with a tie. That in my opinion is pathetic and I never thought I would see Madrid fans bragging about getting a draw in a game that meant you losing La Liga. If anything, we should have played with 5 defenders that game.

We lost la liga when we lost to sporting gijon I thought that was pretty clear. I dont see how courage has anything to do with the situation, on the first night everything that goes wrong does and you lose 5-0 (players get nervous, anxiety, early goal, inefficient tactics) so the next time you begin as cautiously as possible when you know that the second time is just a rehearsal for cup elimination games its trouble shooting in a way. The reason why anyone would brag about that game is because it symbolized a return in confidence and a night of mental strength by madrid as they equalized with ten men (which was a major problem in the first game).

You guys have come back from further down with less games left to take the league from Barca. I just have never seen a Madrid team play the way Mourinho did against Barca, and with the players and money invested in the team I think it's sad. I mean under Pellegrini you didn't resort to that and played much better. This is the same Madrid that fired Capello after winning titles because he didn't play attractive enough.

You can't compare the way Real Madrid played under Mourinho to Capello, we scored way more and we are way more attack based under Mourinho than Capello, which is why we scored 102 goals in the league. You don't score 102 goals by parking the bus. But yeah our tactics against Barca was very defensive, but the right way to go since Barca is the superior team atm

I will probably catch flak for this but Barca were superior to Inter when they kicked the crap out of us 3-1 and they did not sit back. A lot of people say that is the way to beat Barca, but I don't think that's the truth. The teams that give us the most trouble over the last couple of years are Athletico Madrid, Villareal, Sevilla, Inter, Real(not last year). The only team to really be successful with parking the bus is Rubin, all the other teams play good football.

And I am comparing the way you play under Mourinho against Barca not how Real plays against everyone else. I mean it's great you scored 102 goals last season but you only scored 3 in 5 games against Barca. I would say he switched up his tactics a little against them wouldn't you?
