Is it as sadistic as people say?
Its a masterpiece. A film that literally scarred me for life Lol.
Its not sadistic sadistic. When you look at it, you wont see many graphic torture scenes in it or anything. Instead its fully aimed at your psyche and mind and therein lies its beauty imo. Its more like Kubrick's Shining. In fact these 2 films, Funny Games and Shining did manage to scare me more than any typical horror movie did, so theres that.
And if you are watching it (not recommending or anything, its one helluva ride and is definitely worth checking out but it is surely not everyone's cup of tea), strongly recommending to watch the original German version and not the English remake.

Yea I was going to watch the German version. I've seen it being discussed a lot so was interested. Might give it a watch.

Funny games is the be all and end all of a home invasion movie. Nobody can invade a home like those folks in that movie.

43% off of 7 reviews, with 3 being fresh and 4 rotten?
Malick films are generally divisive anyway.

Pretty sure I've only made comments on the cast being the most ridiculously stacked I've seen.
Christian Bale got entirely cut out of it

- Manchester by the Sea scene:
People who have seen Manchester by the Sea, what was your favorite scene? I feel like this exchange is the best in the movie. Absolutely incredible

Christian Bale overrated? nah.
Malick is just a weirdo. He doesn't care about his initial script when editing. Adrien Brody thought he had the lead in Thin Red Line until the premiere, then he saw the movie and found out he was cut out.

That scene was incredible. It shook me so much.
Michelle Williams def had the most powerful supporting role of the year in this film. The definition of a supporting role. Wish she'd gotten some recognition for it.
Naomie Harris also had a very emotional scene in the end of Moonlight that broke me in a better way than this.
Manchester By The Sea was one of the most depressing movie I've ever seen. Was so dour and still had great humour. So great.

Yeah that scene broke me. Had heavy teary eyes. The acting from both of them was just too powerful. The movie captures sadness and depression better than I've ever seen on screen.

Incredibly low ratings on both RT and IMDb (just 4 people voted anyway lol). Was actually looking forward to this.
Herzog, Shannon and Garcia Bernal. How d f can this be bad?!

Posted this earlier. Ignore if you have seen.
Glory wrote:The nothing happens point raised by guys is understandable. I very much consider MBS an auteur work. There are many minute things in the movie that if we carefully pay attention we can appreciate. Its a frikin masterpiece.
- SPOILER:
For example the way women are portrayed in the movie for one is very interesting and theres a uniformity in each of their behavior. Then the kid basically is his older brother MKII. There are various references in the film where they say how handsome/alpha the older brother was, the same way his kid is right now. So, Lee when he sees the kid he sees his more successful brother. He just cant get out of that introvert, loser underdog tag and assert himself even when his alpha brother is dead. Its a character study at its finest and the part is brilliantly portrayed by Affleck. That one scene, where the kid asks whether he can bring the girl home for the first time, just look how beautifully Affleck played that part man! His expression. He doesnt even say anything for sometime, and his face is filled with a sense of surprise or confusion or sort. Then he breaks the silence by saying use condom or something. Just brilliant brilliant scene and execution. Similarly there are other scenes as well , like the band practice scene where one guy playing drums either lags behind or goes ahead lol its a very specific but seemingly pointless scene but I am sure it meant stuff, dont know exactly tho (can anyone try to fill in). My interpretation of it was to further underline the point about Patrick's alpha-ness. The rest of the pack agreed to whatever he said without questioning.
Subtleties are the strongest point of MBS imho. And of course there are some not so subtle but at the same time equally magnificent scenes like the whole fire scene and then the last epic confrontation scene with Michelle Williams's character where both of them finally break.

Re: The Movie House - Part 9
Agree with all on the Michelle Williams scene in Manchester By the Sea. Not only is it the best scene in the film itself, but one of the best in the entire year of 2016. Think I had it second in my top scenes of the year
@Glory Werner Herzog is basically another Malick, in that most of his films split audiences. Looking at that trailer though, I'm not surprised that it might flop. Does not look like much is happening in that one.
Baby Driver
When is its release date?
