How am I supposed to take an article seriously that has such a hugely exciting stat as "possession won in attacking third" in it's opening graphic and then first paragraph talks about some Fosu-Mensah kid with two Premier League starts to his name as some formidable force that was required to keep the free-scoring, ever-menacing, supercar-styled superstar Erik Lamela at bay?

What ?! Where exactly in that article have you read that ?
The only thing mentioned regarding Mensah here is that he was the best United player on pitch and that is spot on. His taking off directly resulted in all 3 of Spuds goals.

But Lol at the article for terming his substitution as 'baffling'. There was no way could have continued.

The sympathy for Lamela is working in his favour more than his football imo.

Ross Barkley
Romelu Lukaku
Harry Kane
Jack Butland
Phillipe Coutinho
Delle Alli

Alli wins this easily I think.

Can a player be nominated for both awards ? I mean, if Kane wins best player is it possible for him not to win best young player ?

Lamela is playing in a winning team and everyone's been waiting for him to start performing closer to his price tag, so now that he's finally having an OK season - and nothing more than that - it's fashionable to point to him and say "look, there's an example of how Spurs have improved". Yes, Spurs have improved, but not because of Lamela; Lamela has improved because of Spurs.

smoking
Did you watch the match? It's quite clear he was having a monster game and they did concede 3 in 9 minutes right after he was subbed out. Lack of experience doesn't prove lack of ability.

I'm going to take your 2nd paragraph as bait because otherwise you must not really watch much Spurs.

Didn't watch the match, our game was on at the same time. Could have caught the last 30 mins, but couldn't be bothered. I've watched a good number of Tottenham games this season, though, and Lamela just isn't standing out as some sort of difference maker. Their best XI has at least 5 players that would be harder to replace than Lamela.

Good to see Kante get the recognition he deserves. Could give the award to any of Vardy, Mahrez or Kane, imo.

How did Coutinho and Barkley make the list Laughing

In a smaller news btw, Man Utd have booked an FA cup Wembley semi final berth with Rashford scoring a beauty against WHam Smile 2-1 final score. Fellaini also on the scoring chart.

Dele Alli has a shout but honestly if Kane is up for it, it has to be Kane.

Dele Alli has been brilliant this season but Kane's brilliance is only overlooked due to his form from last season. He's leading the goalscoring charts right now and has been as instrumental as anyone for Tottenham. If Kane isn't nominated then Dele Alli is an easy winner but I think Kane has to take it.

This is a hype award mostly, and Alli has the hype around him to win it I feel. But yes, Kane has been the best player from thee Young Player list, so he should win it. John Terry voted for him. hmm

Terry's team of the year is:

Schmeichel; Smalling, Huth, Morgan, Bertrand; Mahrez, Drinkwater, Kante, Payet; Vardy, Kane

I'd probably go with:

Schmeichel; Alderweireld, Huth, Morgan, Vertonghan; Mahrez, Ozil, Kante, Payet; Vardy, Kane

I don't think Schmeichel is particularly good. I'd have at least De Gea, Butland and Lloris ahead of him as keepers of the season.

West Ham will pay £2.5m a year to rent the 60,000-seater Olympic Stadium, it has been revealed after the deal was made public following a legal battle.

West Ham will pay the sum per year over the 99-year lease

The Hammers will not have to pay for a range of things including policing, stewarding, goalposts, corner flags, cleaners and turnstile operators. Heating and lighting costs will also be covered by the stadium managers.

bbc

That's an amazing deal. 247m in total over 99 years. That's cheap considering there are players who would go for 100m these days

Can't compare it to players, though, only to stadiums. At the end of the day West Ham made an offer that no one bettered, fair play on them.

If West Ham get relegated the rent cuts in half as well Laughing

Shame the atmosphere at that place is going to be terrible. Also would be interested in how much they'll charge for tickets considering they can't justify high prices to offset stadium costs.

In other news, Jonas Gutierrez won his case against Newcastle over how they mistreated him during his cancer treatment. Newcastle refused to play Jonas because if he played a certain number of games he would have gotten a contract extension.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/14/jonas-gutierrez-wins-discrimination-claim-against-newcastle-utd?CMP=share_btn_tw

“We concluded that the reason why the respondent managed the claimant’s selection was because they had no longer wanted him at the club because of his cancer.”

...

He has previously told how he paid for his own treatment and how he felt that the club had treated him poorly after his recovery.

He said: “It is notable that during my chemotherapy treatment, neither the manager, Alan Pardew, or any club directors contacted me to see how I was feeling or to congratulate me on my recovery.”

...

During cross-examination, Newcastle’s lawyer, Sean Jones, claimed Gutiérrez was “just in it for the money”. The player denied this and, amid increasingly heated exchanges, became visibly emotional before leaving the court crying.

“I am not here for the money,” he said. “I want to do this for all people who have problems with their employers.”
