He's in Mou's list of discarded!!!! They are left in Madrid while team is in America and then China. They have been told they have until Aug 7th to accept a deal (all have deals acceptable by club except Gago, but all are resisting the deals on the table. There is no chance he plays with Madrid under Mou (at least this year for sure).

In Canales case, he is actually in Columbia with U20 team at world championship so his situation may take a little longer to resolve. There are 2 offers in Spain for him, Valencia and Villareal with them buying him, but with buy back clause. Club doesn't want this, they want a loan deal. There also are several offers acceptable to Club from England, Italy and Germany (loan deals), but Canales does not want to leave Spain.

Sell Kaka and keep Canales as backup to Ozil and Sahin. That means Canales is 3rd choice CM with Granero as 4th.

isnt he 3rd choice last year that is why he wants out cause he wants more minutes?

3rd choice as in 3rd in line to start at CM. Ozil and Sahin would be 1 and 2.

Doesnt he even start for the bloody U20 National Team anymore? He didnt play in their latest friendly according to Marca. I miss last summer when Canales was the star of Spanish youth and the new Maradona...

not really a good season for him last year... really wasted a year to improve

TBH their new kit is amazingly nice looking.

Anyway, like I said it would be better for Canales to go to Villarreal, he would get more playing time. He also must go for only one year, not two, as we need him when Kaka leaves.

Turns out to be a TWO year loan agreement and Canales can not play an offical game against Madrid. Canales is in Columbia (with U21 WC team) until Aug 20th and has to agree to deal.

I would have preferred him at Villareal, but this is likely second best option for him. The 2 year timeframe makes sense since he won't establish himself in just one year plus no way he can make squad next year. In 2 years, Alonso is nearing the end of his peak.

No he's going to replace Valencia. he is being developed into an end to end MF (whether it be Villareal or Valencia). A spanish F does not have a CAM, they have defensive backs that are good with passing e.g Busquets, Alonso at times, Javi Martinez, Bruno and they have end to end that are good at passing, controlling ball and attacking e.g Iniesta, Xavi, Borja. Right now Canales will be developing into the latter.

At Madrid, Mou seems to want to end to end MF (sometimes he may sub in adefensive MF for one of the end to end) and a CAM.

So that does put Canales as a possible Xabi replacement in a few years.

Basically he has played more attacking up to now, because of the opposition, but like most spanish MF, they develop a more deeper role as they mature.

The issue is his development. He is after all only potential at this point. Second issue is how bad of a taste does Mou have for him. i.e. even if he does develop as most of us expect, when Mou take him back (assuming he is still at Madrid) in 2 years.

if you are relating to a DLP xabi, i dont see that happening imo.

I think the Canales and Madrid story is over Shaven... Ozil is very, very young and will be here for 3-4 years. I don't see Canales coming back to be on the bench.
