What are you saying!!! He has played in every game, some as starter and some as sub. He hasn't yet sttod out but it takes time to get adjusted to new club. He arrived after pre season and still gets regular playing time. Give him time. He was the best player with the U20 team (in Columbia) and the with U21, 2 games in initial qualifying for next years euro.
He started one game. Thats not bad, but I expect with time for him to nail down a starting place.
Something I dont get about you is how you always seem to get angry at me and then try to convince me of the things I already know. Canales is good and promising. No shit, did you ever realise that Im one of the biggest Canales fans on here?

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
No I'm not upset. It's just that I pretty certain Canales has played in every game. It's not easy to go to a new team after missing preseason.
The only thing I'm pissed about is that I believe he is gone permanently from Real M and I believe he is a future standout. I think this is another case like Mata. Sure we have buy back options but I don't believe we will make a place for him on squad. It's a very young team and I don't expect many changes in next 2 years.

He aint getting tackles easily that is actually Banega. He has been of Valencias best performers with Rami.

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
Canales was playing Alonso esque passes. Both of which should have been scored by Piatti and Soldado.

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
Canales was good. Obviously he has to improve, but I am happy with how he is doing. Seems like he is the one starting the big games, even though he does not start every time. Maybe he has stamina/tiredness problems?
Consider a midfield with Alonso, Sahin and Ozil. Wont Canales be a good backup for the latter two?

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
Sergio put in a good performance. It's obvious he's still a newbie though but that touch of class is very clear in his passes and control.
Hope the club don't drop the ball on him. There is quality there, you can't deny it.

Unfortunately I didn't see game. This thread seemed to have mixed opinions about how well he played. @Setablanca, I know you are as biased as I am, how well did he play?
Re his stamina/ tiredness, no I don't think that's an issue. It's just that he is trying to break into a team after missing their entire preseason. That's difficult to do especially at his age. Let just hope that by Christmas, he has earned the full time starting role. FYI - Banega was in the same position of trying to make starter for last 3 years (first at Valencia, then Atletico and last year at Valencia). It was only in latter part of last year that he started getting regular starts. A lot of people in this forum speak highly of him, but in my opinion he has taken 3 years to develop and I believe Canales will develop in 1, at most 2 years (and his upside is much greater). I expect him to be on Olympic squad next year (together with Thiago, Mata, Javi Martinez, etc)

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
His touch and ball control was fantastic as usual but he hardly threatened us all game.
Needs to add an end product to his game like Thiago has done for Barca.

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
He has great vision when he gets behind the ball, but he always slants his body in such a way to cut out forwad vision. So he ends up making a series of backpasses.
Reallly needs to address that issue.
Other than that looked great as ever yesterday, but as everyone said lacking end product.

He played well, like everyone said, a very solid midfield performance, and his potential really shone through. But he is an unrefined gem. Needs to improve certain elements of his game which will come with more practise as you said...
Its nice to see everyone is finally rating Sergio. Last year he seemed like a lost cause and it was just a few of us that still believed in him. I do believe like you that he should be in the Olympics, but also that he should soon get callups for the senior squad! If Thiago can do it, surely Canales can if he is starting for Valencia.
Another important development will be whether he develops more as an AM/forward or as a deeper midfielder.

Interesting to note that Canales is burying Parejo on the bench

We should hold our thumbs that he fulfills his potential and then sell him off for a shitload of cash.

Now that's a real positive madrista. Just like Kaka let's get him into top shape and then SELL!!!!! We obviously don't need the next Spanish super star!!!!!

Re: El Senorito - Sergio Canales
Ozil plays his position, is and will be a better player than Canales throughout his career.
If Canales becomes so-and-so, by all means keep him as a decent sub, but if he should fulfill his potential whats the point of keeping him benched?
I predict he will be out of Madrid soon enough. Not that he is bad, just we got better in his position. Too good for bench, not good enough to displace Ozil in the starting lineup.
Also, I like to think im neither positive nor negative, I strive to overcome my biases and come to a realistic opinion.
