MOTM amazing changes with a depleted bench

But can we stop starting games/ties giving too much respect to the opposition?

He definitely got it wrong with Barzagli at RB. Looked destroyed at RB but top at CB and Licht saved the game.

Literally play anybody else at RB, Barzagli can not play there he's utterly exposed. There's a reason otherwise bang average footballers with pace and athleticism look great at full back, Barz is the antithesis of a modern day full back.

Yep. Honestly Licht looked so finished the first half of the season that I wasn't even mad I saw Barzagli there starting. De Sciglio needs to come back ASAP.

Great adjustments from the first game to today and with the substitutes.

I think Alex Sandro isn't really a full back, looks better more advanced. Asamoah did a shift as usual and provides more width in a simpler way.

Lichsteiner over Barzagli, Barzagli offers nothing going forward so when you do need to score, this is a hamstring. But lets not forget that Lichtsteiner came on in the second half, he may not have been as effective from the start but it really was a performance to remember from him. Phenomenal job.

The main difference was containing Kane, although he still had a couple chances because he's that good, we did not let every attack go through him and Eriksen like in the first leg.

What a match

I genuinely feel he doesn't approach games aggressively enough from the outset even if he's fantastic at managing mid game.

Or am I just being unfair?

He is guilty of that every once in a while.

In this case he deserves praise in the end. The team was so unfit and the bench so decimated and he managed it well.

I think you're being unfair, for example in the first leg against Tottenham we came out flying, scoring twice in 9 minutes before cucking back.

Against Barcelona last season in Torino, we came out well enough and scored 2 instead 25-30 minutes

Against Bayern away after a 2-2 home draw (in which we were losing 2-0 and came back, the last time we last a two-legged tie), we again came out well enough and had a 2-0 lead at half, which we cucked away after missing a couple chances for the 3-0.

Didn't watch it tonight tbf, just a general opinion I have of him.

He's amazing at managing mid game though, I think there might be a case he might be the best at that particular skillset.

Yep + that Cuadrado miss right before half time if memory serves right and then we cucked ourselves Proud

Strange that Juve and Italy traditionally have so many defenders they having to start Barzagli so much at RB this season? Hes clearly too slow for that position and should be CB as above said.

Nice changes and the win, but Spurs really relaxed too much especially for that Dybala goal, it almost looked too easy.

Atalanta. Last season was their best ever and they did it (partly) with a group of youngsters + Papu. Came 4th place in Serie A.

He did great. Really is an excellent tactician. Knows how to exploit teams' weaknesses. Not many if at all go to Bernabeu and put 3 past a team like Madrid.

His only problem was the lack of options which has been an issue all season.

Looks like this is the night he really understood European football better then ever.

*bleep* it, give this man an actual midfield to work with and we'll get a CL.

Unless it's Michael Oliver in a Madrid K.O game obviously. United fans back me up.

This only exploited his absolutely terrible tactics and lack of courage last week.

Mandazukic should have started last week.

Did great but if it was his decision to not push for a 4th during normal time, then it was the wrong decision.

That's pure hindsight
Mandzukic has been looking absolutely shit against Serie A fodder. He's also been fluffing headers left, right and centre.

I think it was his decision. He's unfortunately shown that ill-timed need for caution far too many times in situations like this. Sometimes you have to just go for it and take a chance. Max just doesn't strike me as one of those coaches.

Happy for Max

Wingdzukic effective again

We didn't have a lot of options on the bench but I feel he should've tried a Cuadrado/Marchisio in there

He was also injured so there's that. He raced to fitness to make the bench.
